4* 40 one wing longer than other
Hello Everyone
I just finished the 2 wing halves of my 4* 40 and now realize that one half is 1/8" longer than the other. The wing centers are already sheeted so I would have to cut the wing tip back. The end rib is glued well and I'm pretty sure it won't come off in 1 piece so I'd have to make a new rib.
If I just leave it as is will it affect performance much? or should I just bite the bullet and cut it down.
Thanks

Like the others said, you won't even notice it.
If it really bothers you , rather than cut one wing down
why not "add" the 1/8" to the other one.

Roby

I'd also leave it alone. When you mount the wing in the fuselage, there is always a chance that it won't be 100% perfectly centered. If you are off by 1/16", then you are all set.
You really will not notice 1/8" difference. The Four Star is a very forgiving kit.
Good luck

If it was me, I would add 1/8" to the root end of the shorter panel. All it would take is to trace the root end onto a 1/8" sheet, cut it out, glue to panel. Sand to blend it in. All of five minutes work.

I would either add 1/8" to the short side or if not then take it into consideration when you mount the wing to the fuse so that it's straight with the world when mounted. If the wing wasn't at an exact 90 degree angle to the fuse it would make more difference than one side of the wing 1/8" longer than the other.

Adding 1/8" to the root may mean that the spar joiner (dihedral brace) may not butt up against a W-1 rib properly. The brace only extends 1 rib bay into either wing panel (2-3/8" ), so you will want it to be glued well to both spar caps and the ribs.
As others have said, don't worry about the 1/8" difference. It's a wonderful model.

1/8th off? Man that thing will lock into a knife edge and stay there, it will be impossible to level out...
But seriously everyone else is correct. It will fly good whether you modify it or not.
Its actually interesting to see how far off things can be, and still be able to trim it out.
You are on the right trail though ...finding small things like that will help you build very very accurate. You won't get as many first flight surprises by keeping a close eye on the build.
Enjoy the plane....

Just take note of that when glueing the stab so it will be on the right center line. And If you already have glue it, like everybody have said, don't worry it will fly fine.
