Default Looking for Great Planes Ultra Sport 1000 kit

Hello Gents,

I had a Great Planes Ultra Sport 1000 kit sometime ago and ended up selling it to someone else due to job relocation and limited budget to move the house furnishings and family. Now I really regret doing that as I've always wanted to build and fly one. Does anyone know where one is available? Or possibly knows where I can get a set of plans that I could use manufacture my own kit? Google searches thus far haven't yielded positive results.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated..

Cheers,

The plans for the Ultra Sport 1000 can be purchased from RCM. They cost $29

Ken gave you the link to the plans, and here is a link to the Canopy. Have fun.

Thanks to all that have replied. A kit has been shipped my way and I'm on my way to building yet another great flier. I'll open a new topic when the build commences.

Thanks to Larry in KS for helping me out.

To the others who've replied, Thank you and the information received will be forwarded to interested parties with you permission.

I've been looking at 1.20" 2-strokes as well as the 1.6" 2-stroke OS engine. 4-strokes are enticing but right now out of my flying budget. As far as Gas engines I don't think the power to weight issue warrants placing one in airframe. I'm a die hard 2-stroke guy by fault [&:]

tschuy, I, too, have an US1000 which I think will be my next build. I have a Saito 125 which I think would be a great engine for the US1000. A lot of people say put a 1.80 on it and I'm sure it would be a great sized engine. But I would bet the four-stroke Saito 125 would do it justice. Like you, I have been looking at some gas motors but weight and size issues always come to mind. I hate feeding $18-$20 glow fuel to the plane, but I haven't found a good gasser choice yet.

Hey airbusdriver,

I know a good gasser for your US1000. The Saito FG20. It's a real shame the motorcosts over $500.00. That much money can buy allot of glow fuel.... I think the FG20 would be a good choice for the plane even though you may have to make a few changes to theplane because of the larger carb. Think about it this way though, you could save up your pennies while you are building your plane and when you are done you can buy the motor. Or, if that idea doesn't appeal to you, you can save yourself all the hassles and send your kit to me......Just kidding.

You need to go to the engines forum and read up on the F
G-20; they are having issues with that engine.

To be honest with everyone, I've been dealing with the recent passing of my mother-in-law and had not had a chance to even un-roll the plans. As soon as the family issue settles I'll get the digital camera charged up and will start sharing with everyone.

Probably will take some hits on this one, but I've decided to go with the GMS 1.20 2-stroke to power the bird. The OS engines produce less power and the quality for the price just doesn't seem to be there anymore. Putting a 1.60 in the nose would make it a bear to fly and bugger to slow down to land. Will stay with the fixed tail dragger configuration (like Larry my fun budget is limited) and plan to cover in 3 color Monocote with the primary color being yellow with the trim colors being blue and orange. Plan to tint the canopy blue.

Question for everyone.... What futaba/hitec servos do folks use in their US1000's?

I used JR 531's in mine. Today I would use either Hitec 635 (analog) or 5485 (Digital). Both cheap and yet plenty of powerfor this thing. With the split elevators and a single servo on each sideof the wing, they are plenty big. That way you can have a servocost less than the national budget.

Been off the grid a bit with work but now finally kicking into building mode. Cleared a workspace and setup my typical door desk and saw horse building table and have laid out the plans to get them un-curled. Had question for those who may have built this airplane before.... Iseen some posts where gents had modified the trailing edge stock to facilitate flaps. Do they really make a difference?

Cheers,
