Kit Bashing a TF Cessna 182Q to a 1956 Cessna 182
I'm building a TF Cessna 182Q but I changed the Fin and Rudder to reflect a 1956 Cessna 182. I added Material and Rib's to both to reflect the Scale Height. I also Added Two 1/4in. Dowels in the Fin Thru the Stabilizer into a Plate that I will incorporate into the Fuselage for added strenght. I also will make changes to the Cowel and Rear Side Windows. I will upload pictures later. The Photo is the 1956 182 I'm Modeling.

RE: Changing TF Cessna 182Q to a 1956 Cessna 182
Very much looking forward to seeing your photos. I have always been a fan of the straight tail Cessna's. I have scaled up a set of plans of the old Berkeley C172 (straight tail) to the same size as the Topflite 182. Took a bit of work to rejig the old construction methods to the more modern ways. This model is currently on the "to do" list. I am about 60% through building the Topflite C182, have been taking lots of photos during the build, shall post them the closer I am to completing it. Was there much involved in modifying the fuselage to the "fastback" version?

I'm really not that far yet. Just finished the Tail Feathers. The Fuselage is next on the building table. Will start pictures when that is started.

I see you are adding navigation lights like I am. They are really a nice detail. Good luck with the knee I'm do some knee surgery myself but I think I'm going to have to have my back fixed first (herniated disks). My right knee really talks to me but its the left leg I can't feel that makes me nervous.

Well I have a New Knee now so I can get to work on my 182. Got the bottom half of the Fuselage ready to start planking. This is as far as I've got so far.

Deleting the Rear Window is easy, but the Rear Side Windows have to be Changed also. They are Smaller and Shorter in length.

Keep up the good work, the straight tail Cessna's would have to be my all time favorite. I'm currently working on the "stock" Topflite C182 but also have plans for a 1/5 scale straight tail C172 waiting on the side lines. Looking forward to seeing your progress.

I ruffed in the the deleted Rear Window area by raising and moving forward Former 5B,and raising Former 6B&7B.I also changed the shape of the Rear Side Windows. Still have more work to do on the Stinger Arrangment to get the desired Fast Back Look, I also installed a Supertigre 90 for power. Sorry for the long delay in posting. I'll try to work on the Model alittle more frequent.

Started Planking the Topsides. Had to realy soak the wood in the bath tub to get the Planks formed. Plenty of Tape Pinsand Clamps.

Crowe04 I'm sorry for delay in answering your question. Deleting the Window Area and making the Fastback was not hard at all. I simply raised all the Formers to get the desired affect. I hope this helps you.

I was not familiar with this version of the 182. Thanks to you, my interest in building one has increased.
Now it's time for me to look at building the Hosteler Cessna, in this version.

TomCrump I think it's a nice looking Airplane. To get the Fastback look I cut inhalf the rear formers and raised them up, changed the shape of the rear side windows with shorter inserts.

Everything dried over night so I did the preliminany sanding. Needs alittle more final sanding, the Fastback and Side Windows came out good. I'll finish up sanding the Fuselageand Tail Feathers and then completethe Font End (ie. Servo's, Fuel Tank and Fuselage Forward Deck) and then onto Building the Wing. I know I'm building out of sequence with the instructions, butthis is the way I like to build if I can.
