It almost feels like I could! Working with metal is not one of my strong suits so it takes me a little extra effort to get it done right.
I just did the test fit on the left main strut and all fits perfectly. Next I will test the right wing and once it is verified to be correct I will glue the lower bracket. Once that dries, tomorrow, I will reinstall the struts on the plane, set the wing dihedral, then glue in the end brackets.

Interesting new plane coming from Hangar 9... I still prefer kit planes but this looks really tempting!

Wife kept me busy today but I managed to sneak away for a while and get the joiner portion of both struts glued up. JB Weld takes some time to set up but it should be all ready when I can continue the process on Tuesday.
The struts and joiner were cleaned and covered with JB Weld. Then the parts were put together and cleaned up with some rubbing alcohol soaked towels. When done carefully there will be some JB Weld left in all the cracks, like grouting a floor.

The wing side of the struts are now glued in place.
To get the struts the proper length I put the wings on the plane and set the dihedral by clamping a few sticks from the wing down to a support. The sticks will remain until the glue cures to prevent the struts from bearing the weight of the wings. Once the wings were supported I put the glue on the end brackets, put them into the struts, and installed the struts on the plane. Their length was adjusted by bolting the struts to the mount adjacent the gear then pulling out or pushing in each wing side bracket until they lined up with their appropriate hole and bolted it in place. (Photo shows the process)
After the struts dry I will install the brass pins locking the metal brackets into the air-foiled aluminum. During the crash none of the brackets pulled out of the struts proving their strength.

This morning I drilled the struts and installed the brass locking pin. That is about it for this weekend. Next week I will sand / file down the brass pins flush with the struts then add the jury strut parts from the previously made set.
Then covering!

Mueseum quality work SDP... Covering planes is always bitter sweet for me, I like to admire the beauty in the structure.

I'm with you on that... Cover in clear!!
I just ordered a 10M roll of Natural Solartex covering and some painting supplies. Covering may begin next weekend.
I may cover the wings then paint them, just to get something totally repaired, then transition onto the fuselage.
I am totally sold on Solartex with Klass Kote Paint but cleaning the spray gun does get old. So, if I break up the process I will be much happier.
I am really picky about cleaning up my spray gun. It gets detailed every time I use it. Still looks and works like new.

Hey SDP, it seems like there was a lot of bending and breaking going on, but you never mentioned any problems with the Robart gear after the crash?

Today I went to the One Eighth Fly-In at my field and took a few photos. Here are those:
http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showp...3&postcount=14
When I got home I filed / sanded flush the brass pins on the struts. Once that was complete I removed the jury strut components from the old struts and removed the paint from the straps with a thinner soak. Once that was complete I put the jury struts onto the new struts.
When I start painting I will prime the struts and straps as one piece.
That is about it for the "Construction" portion of the repair. Next up is covering and paint.

So many beautiful planes! I would be hard pressed to pick a favorite with that grouping (though I am partial to the Jug! ) Thanks for posting. BTW great shots...

Struts and the Jury Struts are now complete and adjusted to fit the plane.
Before covering I am going to add a pair of skid plane mounting points to the tips of the wings where, on those less than perfect landings, the wings hit the ground. I managed to scratch both wing tips, as most cubs have done, and I had to make repairs. If I add some removable skids I can just replace the skid when and if it gets too worn.
With painted wings holes become a real problem to repair.
More to follow after I decide what to do.

Most people have seen this but it is a good example of why I want the skids. Intentional or not, most Cubs I have seen have kissed a tip!

Here is what I came up for the skid plates.
I made some round spacers, one hollow on the bottom and one with a 4-40 blind-nut installed for the top. Then I made a set of aluminum skid plates that cover the area of the wing that impacts the ground when and if you have an issue. My Cub lands really easy but if there is any crosswind this cam quickly become unmanageable. The skid pates are simple and should save the wings from damage.
Repairs / mods are complete. Next weekend..... Covering.

Covering begins!!!
It was a little more challenging to cover the wing with the surfaces hinged but not too bad. So far the bottom of the left wing is done. Time for lunch then I'll do the top.
I also went to the Copperstate Fly-In (Full Scale Fly-In) on Saturdayand there were plenty of Super Cubs to look at.

The covering is now installed on the top of the left wing. I should be able to get the right wing done on Tuesday then maybe next week I will start painting the wings.
The top was a little easier to cover than the bottom because there were no control horns to get in the way.

When you release your plans I will order your plans and of course will need a set of tires. I will e-mail Dubro and request they start selling 8" tires. Maybe they will listen if enough people request them.
A guy in our club has a 40% Super Cub I will try to find out what size tires he has on it.

I would really like to put the 6" Dubro tires back on my Cub but unfortunately the handling of the plane on asphault was badly effected. When mine is rebuilt I am going to try the 1/4 Scale Dubro air filled tires I managed to get from Dubro. Hopefully they work good. If not then I will put the foam ones back on.

Super Cub Walkaround:
While I was at the Copperstate Fly-In I took a few minutes to take several photographs of some of the more detailed parts of a Super Cub. Here are a few.
