Any idea on covering you will use as you will be painting? I am curious because I am interested in painting my builds but havent done the research to know what covering is best to use
.... Any idea on weight so far and what the factory estimated weight to be on the finished project? Once you finish this one, you will have to get the plans blown up into 2x that size and build on with retracts

Okie Dokie, I started on the fuselage. Got a late start this evening (took the wife and kids out for sushi for wifes B'day). Amazing how I was looking at those chopsticks thinking that they would be great for wing spars! This hobby is a sickness!
Believe it or not, this is 10 pieces of gluing. It took a while for the glue to set since it is gluing plywood to balsa. Tomrow nite I should be able to knock a huge dent in the fuselage......

I believe "Sickness" is quite an understatement...., The fuse on the FW-190 I built was quite different as well... but build strong. May want to consider drilling some holes where you can to keep weight down..I think I saved several ozs by swisschessing it... Cant wait!

McCleod, that's a common picture. I love that one. I used to have it hanging on the wall as a kid. It was one of LTV's small PR posters on 9x11 paper. Think of it like an oversized trading card. On the back were the specs. My Pop worked at LTV from 1963 to 1999. I was raised on the A-7. It wasn't sexy, but I always thought it was a beauty. I guess I was biased.

Knocked a small dent in the fuselage tonight. It should start moving more quickly from here. keeping everything perfectly square while the glue dries is time consuming.......I am just loving this build. Straight forward as it gets, building it step by step with no modifications so far.

I mentioned earlier that the fuselage builds differently. Well, the tail section took a bit of "noggin scratching" to get straight and stable. I also will cover as much as possible before permanantly installing. So, with making the hatches on the bottom and all the sanding, it has been a little more time consuming that I thought. The fuselage weighs as much as a bag of bricks (the red ones)! So, I am definately using the 46FX. It will just have to land at Mach3! Should get alot more done tonight.........

Why is she so heavy? Just heavy balsa? It is amazing how much the weight of balsa can vary. The contest grade is super light.
Was that your idea to put the servos by the tail or is that shown on the plans? That will definitely help offset a big motor.

This is parhaps the stoutest HOB plane I have ever seen, they really made this one to last. The P-51s are pretty good too but this one really has some meat to it.

I built the cockpit, I cant have an airplane with no cockpit! I know it is just a propjet, but it is really neat and will look different when complete. I also made some missle rails to attach to the bottom of the wing. I am going to the LHS to buy some stronger gear wire today and also make a longer nose wire for a bigger prop.

I was asssigned to the 354th Wing back in 1972-1975. That's been a long time and I'm not sure, but that plane may have even been deployed with us to Korat Royal Thai AB, Oct 1972 to Oct 1973. Don't have a clue where all my old pics are, but found these two in my desk.

Shouter: Thanks for the pics! Thats why I am documenting this little build, hopefully some of these older cool kits will come out of the hanger
I started beefing up the gear at the recomendation of another fellow. I figured I might as well make them look a little better. Better than just wire hanging down anyway. I used brass tubing of a couple different sizes and soldered them onto the gear before bending them (i bent whole nes gear). I will paint them white later and hopefully they will resemble some sort of struts.............

Looking really good. Nice job on the simulated landing gear struts.
I figured out why the fuselage is so heavy. It's half plywood!
I see the A7 "Shouter" built also has the servos by the tail. Cool set up which helps balance the model.

I went out and bought the A-7 kit but I may not get to it until next year. Too many other irons in the fire. I'm in the process of refurbishing a Super Hots 60 then I have a Phoenix Models F20 to put together before fall.

Good job scoring the goods! I just finished the cowling (which was the most noggin scratchin involved so far). Will mount the wing tonight and get back to it.
G150....out, hehe
