UltraCote Trim over Toughlon/Sig Aerokote????
I asked this question several days ago in the Q&A section with no response. Just curious, does anyone have any experience using UltraCote trim over Toughlon/Sig Aerokote? I would like to make my own trim design and the SIG ARF is covered with Toughlon/SIG Aerokote. Toughlon is a much lower temp covering(my understanding from reading the Toughlon directions) and just curious if the lower adhesion temp for Ultracote(230 degrees) might be to hot for the the low temp Toughlon.

RE: UltraCote Trim over Toughlon/Sig Aerokote????
From the SIG site
Temperature Range:
Adhesive Activates 200 degrees F (93 degrees C)
Shrink Begins 210 degrees F (99 degrees C)
Maximum Shrinkage 250 degrees F (121 degrees C)
Without testing, there's no way to know the melting pont. But, it seems that it "should" work.

I haven't done trim as you are describing but I've covered a plane using scraps of both with several overlapped areas and had zero problems.
Another option would be to use Monokote for the trim and apply it with Windex or trim solvent. I've done that on several World Models planes covered with Toughlon and got good results.

Thanks for the info. I have just about sworn off Monokote for Ultrakote and only have left over rolls/partial rolls of Ultracote. Guess I'll just try it or give up and use the stick on trim designs that come with the ARF.

I would try it, especially if you do not like what came with the plane
edited because I didn't read very well
