Looking for a Stinson 108-3 kit
I saw a 40% build thread on this site but that may be too big to take on. Anyone know of a smaller kit?
My Dad passed away in 1979 when I was only 7. I didn't get to know him to well but one thing that he passed on to me and my brother was his love for airplanes. Being born in 1915, he grew up during the pioneering days of airplanes and while I always heard he owned and flew several airplanes, my mother never talked about them specifically and I never really knew too much about it. Now, I know for certain he had two Cubs, a 1941 and 1946 J-3 Cub, a 1963 BeachCraft Musketeer, 1948 Piper PA-15 Vagabond, a 1940's Fairchild, a early 50's Bellanca Cruise Air with a 150 Franklin motor, and the Stinson Voyager 108-3. There were others and I know he taught flying for the U.S. Army and hopefully research will reveal others. One of his accomplishments as a carpenter was the construction of the Rochelle airport in Rochelle, IL in the 1940s. Unfortunately he lost some planes and many hangers in a tornado in the late 1940s. Anyways, I just ordered the Sig 1/5 J-3 Cub kit and I want to find a Stinson 108-3 kit as well. If you know of one, let me know.

Wendel Hostetler has an excellent set of plans for the Stinson 108. http://www.hostetlersplans.com/voyager108.html His site lists suppliers for a kit, and fiberglass parts.
I think Goldberg has an ARF. I'm not aware of any other kits/plans, but they may be out there.

I've like the 108 since Wendel published the plans. I've seen his display model in person. It's very nice !!!
While not for the beginner, Hostetler designs are not difficult to build. Time and patience are needed qualities. A large building board would be nice, too, LOL
I'm currently building his Cessna 195. The pic may give you an idea of how Hosteler designs his models.

He has the PA-15 Vagabond too. Again, thank you very much. Even if I never get to build them, I will be happy to just obtain these plans.

Here is a picture of my Dad with his Stinson in December of 1966. The little guy is my older Brother and the taller boy is my half brother. The other boy is a relative.
The Wendel Hostetler kit is pretty much spot on. I can't tell if it's cream colored or Yellow like the Kit.

I hope it put a smile on your face Don. This Stinson had the 150HP Franklin too and I am happy to say she is still around today. She is owned by a Fella in Nantucket, Massachuettes. The N# is N634C. I wish I owned her but it wasn't meant to be. My Dad's 63' Musketeer is also still flying, I believe in Northern Illinois. I rode in that plane quite a bit as a youngster.

RE: Looking for a Stinson 108-3 kit
The airplane color of the stinson is actually kind of a cream/pink. I worked with a guy who rescued one from a barn and we restored it. I thought the color was different since it had some pink tone to it. I am running a build thread on the hostetler pawnee right now. You can follow it to get a feel for what it would take to build one. I have hostetlers plans for the 108 and a kit from precision kit cutters. It will be next years build so keep watching and follow that build thread when I start it.

I remember 108's from the early 60's.
I was seeing them rather faded but seems as I remember the cream ones with brown trim
For some reason I was thinking the -3's with the big fins had 165 hp Franklins but it has been a few years
This is not a -3 but the color is getting there?

On thinking more about it I am reasonably sure all three of the 108s had the same size fin. I'll look thru my dusty old file cabinets later on.

RE: Looking for a Stinson 108-3 kit
I am building a 108-2 kit made my Aeromodels. They went out of business about 20 years ago but you can still find the kits now and then on ebay. I just bought mine earlier this year on ebay. I am building a 108-3 and had to scratch build the tail. Here is a link to a thread where myself and someone else are building this kit.

RE: Looking for a Stinson 108-3 kit
Hi- just saw this post. I have an Ikon N' West Stinson 108 kit. It is ~1/6 scale. I would be happy to copy the plans and trace any parts not on the plan for you. If you are interested it would cost about $25 which is the price of the copier, mailing tube, postage, some of my 'time' and car fuel.

RE: Looking for a Stinson 108-3 kit
I know you said kit, but then didn't know if you wanted to actually build from plans. Hobby Lobby has [link=http://www.hobby-lobby.com/giant_scale_stinson_108_arf_red_cream_airplane_590 55_prd1.htm]this Stinson 108[/link] as an ARF. It's pretty spendy, but it is a very nice model. I'm not familiar with the -# designations, so don't know if this would pass for a -3.
