RE: motor for cub w/floats
Just flew my Great Planes Cub with a 70 O.S. 4 stroke, Great Planes Floats. All up weight 11 pounds, using a 12 X 8 prop. Plenty of power for takeoff, and I tend to try and fly slow like a Cub would; flying around at roughly half throttle.
On takeoff I was surprised, almost to the point of disaster, of the lack of aileron control (practically no control). I fly around using low rates as mentioned in the manual. At this rate the ailerons were ineffective with the floats, and only flying around on using the rudder saved the plane until I convinced myself the ailerons were indeed working and went to high rates.
Landings were a breeze, hope this helped, enjoy and good luck.
