The yungest son will be starting trainning on the butterfly next weedend. The instructor wants me to adjust the rud throws on my dx7 to make it slower. He feels that Jacob will need all the help he can get. lol
Back in the summer the instructor had Jacob on buddy box with the alpha 40 trainer. He said Jacob is moving the stick too far and too quick. But I know all will be good. our instructor is great with all types of planes.

Bonified Wingnut and all others G-day I'm about to start the build on my second butterfly I intend putting flaps the same shape as the bird of time wing with the curved shape on the outer portion of the wing. I hope that clear I also will cap the top and bottom of the wings with 1/16 th sheeting with the ribs caped between the LE and TR edges not to be worried about the weight as it will be powered by a OS 40 FS. Have you any imput to the intention or do you think I'm about to bugger a good Kit. Yours PAUL T

I have seen them w .40's before -at least you know the C.G. can handle it. Prop clearance might be something to think about.

BF UPDATE....

Got it on the CG machine........battery pack up front behind the firewall laying flat on the fuse floor, balances about 15 deg nose down at recommended C.G. 3 3/16". I moved the switch and receiver back behind the C.G. and servos in order to try and get the nose up slightly. I like where my battery is (sits right in front of a tray I made for my fuel tank. This set-up should be good from here out. I can also lose my aluminum spinner and drop a few oz. there in the nose -if need be. I am really hoping to get the maiden flight done this week. We should have good weather starting tomorrow for the next few days. I have already broke the engine in so there will be no delay in getting airborne there. Runs great and is waiting on me!!!

Once my flight is complete I will post my complete setup and equipment used along with the final all up weight and other specs. Basically my short review of some hints and ideas for future builders.

Talk to you all later!

liftdump, Thats awesome!
My butterfly balanced out just the same with just a tad nose heavy, but flew great. I was'nt able to do a secound flight over the weekend, bummer. I found that I need to beef up the two screws on the spar where you put the small rubberbands. It is a joy to fly.
good luck with the maiden.

Here are the pictures my cousin emailed me, remember I built this one 3 years ago and its been through heck and 3 engines. The only weight I have recorded for it is 4 lbs. 5 oz. I think that was with a GMS 32

G Day all The next Butterfly I build will be as I said stronger in the wings with sheating on the leading edges and capping on the ribs with the extra weight from the ailerons with all that said the 40 is a four stroe which will bring it back to a 29 or so in two stroke thinking. in generat the weight will be up and so will be the power. Now I'v put the facts again I'm ready for the debate. The new Kit will be here next week I hope so I have time to take advice. (which I never take) well I some times do Yours Paul T PS what happened to MickOZ we are yet to see that butterfly,

It flys great with the trainer wing. Now it can do loops, rolls, inverted, and even a little knifedge. I like it more than the glider wing cause the wind and ground handling are 100% better. It still floats pretty good but I could go fast without worrying about folding the wing-BW

liftdump, I hope your wife is not like mine. She would'nt let me look in side my boxes even to see if there were any broken parts, not till Christmas! Have you been able to inspect your 450 sport? lol These past few days I have spent rebuilding my walkera dragonfly 60b. I have had the 60b for over 2 years and havent flown it yet. I think that I have it setup right, just wish I had the new 450 sport or the 250se. Im sure that the blade msr will help me in training. Well enought about helis, Im sure that your maiden of the Butterfly will go great.

I hate replying to ones self, but here goes I flew the butterfly today, two short flights and its still in one piece , landings could be a lot better . I have left room for lots of improvement. Monday the OS20 will be back in the mounts as I think the extra power will help. I also intend reducing the throws on the rudder and evelators ,I still had a good day sun burnt like a lobster, I must look for a hat on ebay. Will go flying after Christmas . hows the ice and snow over there.Yours Paul T

Liftdump, Good luck on the weather for your maiden! Your going to fall in love with flyeing her!

Quigleywins, We had snow start on friday from 4pm till about 1am, then the rain came till sat. 1pm, then light snow till 12am and the temps dropped below freezing. It is just above freezing now at 2pm sun. All the snow will be gone by tuesday. Wish we could send some rain your way! Im a big kid, I want all snow I hope the weather changes for you and the fires stay away.

Good to hear that you had some time with the BF.

I was wondering if one of us should go ahead and start the new post, with Christmas just a few days away. It might pull somemore builders in. I vote Quigleywins to start new thread, since your are (The Boss)

Earl ,what would a butterfly look like with snow skis maybe there is an idea there for thoes long cold winter nights . Red ones they would lookn good in the snow. What the hell is a MSR Liftdunp ,I hope that you are not about to put a report on the egg beater here on the sacred butterfly sight. I agree Earl , the big wing thread should be started soon,I will give it a go later today the heading will be something like ''Big wing build along group. building support, discussions and help.'' If you feel different about that lets know before our evening . Yours Paul T.
