Default Looking at building a 60 sized plane but which one?

I'm looking at building a kit this winter after a 4 year break from it and I have a .60 2c sitting around collecting dust... I was looking for a speedier airplane, with decent aerobatic performance and will take more than a weekend to build. I was looking at possibly a Kaos or Chaos? but they seem to be discontinued. I also looked at a Sig king Cobra, but I'm not a fan of the plastic and foam construction combo. I've been seriously looking at the ultra sport 60 and possibly putting in some retracts... What do you guys suggest?

You can get your Kaos (Chaos) here. I just ordered a Killer Chaos. I've also built the Aircruiser 60 and the Krafty 60. All these kit have machine cut and sanded parts. There is no die cutting of any balsa parts and they build into very nice sturdy (long lasting) models airplanes.

I already have a fourstar, but I love it and fly the crap out of it... Just looking for something with a little bit more adrenaline! [8D]

It's funny you should send me that link, Minnflyer is from the same field I used to fly at and he used to talk about the ultrasport all the time... It's one of the reasons I was considering it.

Four Star 60
Got to aggree with this recomendation. If you are a first time builder, it is a great kit. If you have experience building, it is a great kit. It is a great flying plane, and is is a good platform for kit bashing. There are a couple weak spots in the fuselage, but most of the build threads cover them well. I've built and killed two of them and have the third in my stack of kits to build.. I'll bash this one, shorter wings. some tricks on the fuselage and some other ideas. It is a good basic start for what ever you want you plane to be, short of a full blown 3D type of flying.

If you want something with a little bit more adrenaline than the Four Star 60, I think the best choice is the GP Extra 300S .60, easy to fly, yet very aerobatic.

Hi everybody,

Well, I do not want to sound like a talking parrot and repeating what I hear but build an Ultrasport 60. I am currently building one using a magnetic building system to put it together. The kit is currently 124.99 at Tower Hobbies.

Happy flying and soft landings!

The Ultra Sport is a great flying airplane. It's also a great build.

I'm building a Four Star .60 right now, and it's one of the nicer kits I've built. Sig really does a nice job.

I would build a Ultra Sport 60 over the Extra 300. If you can find a Goldberg Extra 300....that in my opinion would take precedence over the Ultra Sport.

The Super Sportster is very much like a Four Star...also a nice airplane.

So I've come to the conclusion that I thought I'd come to and I'm gonna go for an Ultrasport! With my final semester starting in a week and my flight students being needy for my time, I'd like to have everything ready so I can work on it when I have spare time... I'd like to try some retracts but which ones? should I go trike or conventional? My feild is fairly rough and is a grass one... Also, does the kit come with all of the hardware I'll need?

Retracts- Robart has some really sturdy mechanicals that work very well. I'll have to come back to ya' to get you the stock number.

My preferance is the tail dragger. I don't believe the kit suggests retract for the trike - Not that it can't be done.

Either way you can't lose.

Spring Air retracts (202 HD's) are perfect for this airplane. a lot easier to install and setup than mechanicals. although MK mechanical retracts are great if you can find them.

Build it as a tail dragger, I'm building it as a nose gear and i run into difficulties because of it, my next one would be a tail dragger.

all pattern type planes look infinitely better on nose gear. i have a king kobra, US 60 and i'm finishing a MK Blue Angel, all with nose gear. and more in the works. with planning a retract and a fuel tank can fit in the nose area.

Definitely build the tail dragger, there's no place for a nosewheel to retract. Besides, retractable nose wheels are a royal pain.

I've built 2 Ultrasports....both taildraggers. Only way to go.....

Get a fuse top header for your .60, and slap a Macs pipe on there. It will scream
