chemie-

You could post on this link to try and convince Hobbico to bring it back. Please!

The stock answer is Ebay but there are for sale threads on RCU and most other web sites like this.
Before I spent Ebay money for the CG kit I would just buckle under and buy the Great Planes 60 size Extra kit. Nothing wrong with it at all and a very good build. There is a difference in how they fly so I like the CG kit better but there isn't enough difference for people to be spending the Ebay money I have seen being asked. Still, you never know when the super deal will come up on some of these sites.

Isn't the CG a 90 sized vs GP 60 size? I wanted to put a 20cc gas in it and thought the 90 was the better way to go.

Actually the Goldberg is classified as a 60 sized kit. (60-91 two stroke) I don't know if that is how I'd ever fly it though. I'd use the 90 instead.

That being said, the Goldberg kit outperforms the Great Planes kit hands down, every time.

There is one for sale as we speak on RCU. Go to buy/sell, select airplanes, then select Goldberg. A New-in-box Goldberg kit...

It's 175 versus 120 for the GP version....I'd buy it if I didn't already have a Goldberg kit in my basement..

I used to build for other people then test fly and trim the planes before I handed them over to the new owners. I have never owned the GP Extra but flown several, I have owned and built several of the CG Extras.
The CG Extra comes out more on the {what is thought today} heavy side compared to the GP Extra. The added weight seems to make them much smoother and track better. They fly about the same other then that. If you want to compete using one of these planes the CG is the better choice. Any weekend sport pilot wouldn't even care about the difference.
The CG is sold as a 60 size plane but a 60 two stroke really doesn't allow it to come alive. The ones I have built have all used a 1.20 four stroke, both OS and YS and up to a YS 1.40. The one with the 1.40 was the best of the bunch. I'm sure either one of these two kits would handle the little 20cc gasser very well.
I'm sure both kits would be OK with the little Zenoah in them. I once owned an ARF {I know!!} Extra 300 with a 73 inch wing span and I was using an RCS 1.40 {22cc} gasser in it. The plane flew IMAC very well but could have used more power, it came in at 13 pounds.

Ouch! Busted.

No I haven't, so thae reply was both biased and unjust to the GP kit. I don't believe it was said in ignorance however.

I'm currently building one because I've seen them both fly. With the two built with stock control surfaces, comparatively, I've watched the GP kit struggle.
The Goldberg kit is not a 3D machine, I'm comparing apples to apples here- but neither is the GP kit.

The GP kit, from what I've viewed does not want to hold the knife edge, the Goldberg will. The GP kit is lighter. The Goldberg kit seems to like a little weight, and still amaze it's pilots.

So, my opinion may not be as "experienced" as you like, but it is not unjustified either.

I like the looks of the GP kit, but it won't do what I want it to like the Goldberg kit will.
( I have to say, I don't think it would take much to make the GP kit close to the Goldberg in performance.)

According to the basic specs, the goldberg kit has an extra 4" of wingspan. I am going to start a GP 60 build this winter, and am going to use a weedeater 25cc engine, if I can get enough performance out of it. It is a light engine (a bit heavier than the G20) and I have ported it a bit. Right now, waiting on a new ring, hopefully it helps, cause the original ring was worn out.
It would be safe to say the goldberg kit would need a strong 25cc gas engine for good performance.

I was confused...the Title on the Goldberg page says "Extra 300 90"; but in looking at the engine specs, you are right; it says .60-.75.

Wasn't trying to bust you. I'm currently flying the GP 300 and have a Goldberg kit to build when the GP is either worn out or meets an untimely death. I was interested in what I had to look forward to and your statement sounded like you might have the inside scoop. The GP 300 will easily hold a knife edge, at least mine will, but it does take a good bit of aileron and elevator input. It will do a knife edge loop if I don't chicken out on the last quarter of the loop.

Maybe I should build both and set them up the same. I could give a review of their different idiosyncracies.

.....just a thought.

This thread seems to have moved away from its intentions. I apologize to the original poster for adding to this direction.

Have you found a kit yet?

Is the Zenoah 20 cc too big for either the GP or CG version of the 300S-60 size?

Guys

As we were talking 2 of these kits were on RCU, one for $175.00, and one for $140.00. I bought the one for $140.00. Gotta keep your eyes out.
