RE: AMR Eclipse50 low wing sport
Hello,
I have build the prototype and now logged 25 flights on the first prototype plane. It is a very easy plane to fly and land. I will post pictures of the building for those of you who are interested in kit building and more particularly in the building of a very fine 50cc size sport airplane. I think i can say it is the first plane really design for everyday sport flyer who would like to try gas engine but does not want all those Extras or YAK kind of plane.
The aircraft is very simple and fit in small car. Mine is a Mazda 5 and i dont even have to dismantle the tail. Wing are made of two pieces mounted on a bug 1.250 in aluminium tube. The airfoil shape is assymetric and fly very well inverted. Wing structure is very simple and have full span aileron. All the construction of the wing use very simple jig and the whole structure is self locking. Same principle of easy construction apply to the fuselage and tail surfaces.
Here is a link to youtube of my Éclipse50 plane in flight. The movie has been done by a spectator and is not always clear but you can see plane performances.

Cool, I like the idea of a basic, no-frills sport plane. It should be relaxing to fly and cheap to operate. Have you thought about making a smaller one? Maybe soemthing for the low-cost 20-30cc engines out there? Maybe even something smaller like a .40 or .60 glow? When will this 50cc kit be available?

I am completing the building manual and kits will be availlable by the 3rd week of September.
Quite easy to build and very "cute". Perfect size for anyone.

Very nice guys. The eclipse fits very nice into your stable of "entry level Gas aircraft along with the trainer 26 and 50. Shee looks great in the air.

Hello,
This plane is as easy to fly as any good sport plane or i should say fly even better since it is bigger and much more stable. On the video, the wind is around 20 to 25 km/h and you can see how stable it is at landing or in the air. I have 25 flights logged on this prototype in two weeks and i am still amazed at how it fly and land. Landing speed is comparable to the Trainer50 speed or even lower. I flew her in no wind condition with the same pleasure and ease of flying.

Whats the width of the fire wall? Wondering if a DL50 would fit in the cowl? Is the cowl fiberglass or wood? Pictures seem to indicate wood. Thanks, Jerry.

Jerry,
The firewall is 5.5'' wide. My DA-50 fits. Just need to recess the bottom for muffler clearance.
Yes, its an all wood cowl made from slices of 3/8'' laser-cut balsa. Neat and simple to build.

RE: AMR Eclipse50 low wing sport
Jerry,
I used an SV50 which is similar in size with the DL50. I dont know the difference between the lenght of the provided stand-off. The DA50 is about 1 inche shorter in length than my SV50. DL50 engine might be different. If the stand-off are shorter, you only have to put hardwood extensions and use longer bolts.
Actually, the cowling is build up of 3/8 thick balsa that need to be sanded to shape but the way it is made make this task easy to do.
I use the SV50 on the prototype that you see on the movie and pictures and so far, after 25 flights, i have no negative comments about the engine and it start really well. Only the muffler is quite bad and i will replace it by a new one that i am designing and building this winter. The new muffler will be a little bit larger in diameter but the same lenght and it should reduce the noise significantly and should not leak as well.

RE: AMR Eclipse50 low wing sport
The only two gas engines I have : a ZDZ 80, which is probably too much engine, and a MVVS 26cc...which is way too little. So in other words, I'll buy a 50cc gas engine for the plane if I decide to go with this kit...or maybe a 60cc, I'm an unlimited vertical kind of guy. The video clip I saw of this plane with a 50cc gas engine sure looked like it had plenty of power! Anyways, I'm just wanting to know if a first time builder could handle building this kit...

RE: AMR Eclipse50 low wing sport
The Éclipse50 is very easy to build using the step by step manual. All parts are interlocking and the fuselage is basically a box type fuse with some former on top. The access hatch provide plenty of space to access everything from ignition to rudder servo. A good 50cc engine is very good for this plane and provide very good performance. The Éclipse is as easy to land as a trainer even in high winds. I now have 30 flights logged on the mine with an SV50 (similar to DL50).

RE: AMR Eclipse50 low wing sport
How about an option for the Eclipse to put retracts in it? After building your 85cc Stick I'm looking to get another one of your fine kits. Was thinking the Eclipse modified to support retracts would be neat. I think the air tank could be positioned under the turtle deck and you would have plenty of room for an extra servo and airlines in the area under the hatch. But it would be nice if you guys had the laser cut parts to modify the wing to support a set of Robart retracts. Jerry.
