Default carbon fiber covering

does anyone know where i can requisition some monokote type coveringor trim sheetthat is like a carbon fiber print? i'm looking for another plane to work on and thought of trying to do something unique with it instead of just the everyday color stuff.

Ultracote. I've used both the CF and the CF/kevlar looking covering. Both planes catch peoples eye. It's no different than regular Ultracote and from my experience works fine with Monokote. I used Neon Yellow. I'll be doing another one soon with Ultracote Orange real soon.

I've used Ultracote over Monokote many times....no big deal.

Ultracote makes the overpriced carbon fiber looking covering.

I've never tried to cover aluminum....give it a shot.

If it doesn't work, you can always try to glue some balsa "veneer" over it. Some 1/32 stuff would easily contour to any landing gear shape.

not a bad idea. i may have found a plane that i want to replicate. it's a 300S. i know...everybody has one of those, a cub and a P-51, but it's growing onme. i want something a little more aerobatic than my RV-4. but, instead of black covering and paint, i wanted to use the carbon fiber look. part of the black is on the cowl though. not sure what to do about that area. maybe i could buy a carbon cowl and paint part of it the other color. too bad they don't make water slide decals that big!!!

Paint you gear.

Black base, then tool box matting, then a light coat of silver or pewter. When you remove the matting, you'll have the effect your looking for.

Recently while shopping for stickers, I came across some adhesive carbon fiber sheeting at AutoZone. I don't know how well it would work, but it looked like about a 6' roll for $10-$15. Might be worth a look.
