Prg,
I have to say this, I do notice you have pictured a dazzler and not an Uproar. Yes, I agree they are one in the same with minor differences. Just wanted to say....., so you wouldn't think I was sleeping or something....

Man, I would imagine a bashed twin of this thing would be a hoot.
I am shooting for less than 4 lb and hoping for 3 1/2 lb. The prop and engine combo I plan to use pulls 7+ lbs of static thrust on my test stand. Should be awesome. As in right next to nuts[sm=spinnyeyes.gif].
Going to another fly in tomorrow. (put on by Houston Sports Flyers) So the work on the uproar will be nil till Sunday at best.

Now, I wonder if the turttle deck was added or the turttle deck was removed. The egg or the chicken first thing.
I still enjoy flying my Dazzler in its forth season. By the way, I have an old Magnum .52 that I want to put on it. I know it will be a blast.

RE: Tower Hobbies Uproar 40 build
That ST .51 should be insane power! 13 inch prop will mean longer gear though... I run an 11X7 APC on the GMS .47. I built a couple of airplanes with Moneykote that was scraps and some given to me, I had a 25 foot roll of metallic green and sure was glad when it was gone! LOL. I am really enjoying messing around with Monokote trims, I did the "Goo" Uproar 5 years ago and now it is getting real popular but I still love it. Ever try the Windex and the Glad Wrap sticky method? it works pretty good for trim. Your bird is looking good! thanks for the idea of leaving off the rib caps as i do remember it being a pain. I went yeasterday and scanned the plans and made a copy so I can keep the original intact. I need a new scroll saw anyway so I am going to scratch up a couple of kits. I doubt it is much of a money savings in the long run but if i build several it could be. I am pretty exited about the twin idea, I have 2 Supertiger .29 engines that run great but am wondering if that is enough power... 2 .47s seems a bit extreme though.

There were photos in RC Report a year or two ago {before they went under} of an Up-Roar done up as a twin, looked very cool. Has anyone made up any templates of there Up-Roar kit yet?? I wouldn't mind scratching out another kit myself. I tossed out all my kit templates when I moved here three years ago. I still have the plans and instructions for them, I even have that little wing shaper in one of my drawers. I also have several OS 32s or 35s not doing anything, a twin could be a lot of fun. Maybe bash it into a P-38??

RE: Tower Hobbies Uproar 40 build
I was thinking of the possibilites on a twin... I would meld the elevators into one big one I am thinking, and the fuselages would need to be as close as possible together in my opinion in case one engine flames out... I havent got templates but I did make a material list and I have the plans scanned and made 1 copy. I went to Fed Ex Kinkos and they made me up 2 separate sheets from the double sided drawing that comes with the kit. I have it in PDF format but they are 25 mb each sheet!! I can just take it to Fed Ex Kinkos and they can print me a drawing anytime (9 bucks a shot). I have never scratch built before I am ashamed to admit but it doesnt look too hard. I am thinking of tracing the ribs and just slapping that on a stack of balsa then cut and sand. The fuselage formers and bulkheads are all straight lines, I am jazzed about doing this really as it will get me ready to scratch up a bigger project in the future. The OS .32's or especially the .35s would be great! [8D] Look what you started RICKSTUBBZ!!!!!! cool! I never even saw an Uproar .60 and they dont make them any longer. I like the fact that the Uproar is so compact but I would maybr have to make removeable outer wings fo the twin. I sure dont want to build it heavy as it's lightness is the trick to Uproar flying so well. I decided to do the Dazzler Ailerons and make the rudder and elevator about 10% or so larger on this build and run with the GMS.47 again with a purple and white and maybe another color Monokote in the same "Goo" trim. That is how much I enjoy the Uproar! wonderful flying airplane. Here is apic of it with my recently refurbed original Midwest "Little Stik", it flies sweet but not as sweet as an Uproar. BTW the "Hot Knife" in the pic flies like junk!!! (might be me) it will donate the engine and radio to the new Uproar. Thanks RICKSTUBBZ for the motivation!!!

RE: Tower Hobbies Uproar 40 build
I just ordered me another Up Roar. It will be my 4th. My first was a .40 kit built that saw tons of abuse, my second was .60 size that I traded off, and my 3rd a ARF that died in a nasty mid air with with a Ucando 3 d. I've flown other planes but I have a special place in my heart for the Uproars. I will post pics of mine after I start.

Dead eyes,
Welcome…… pictures, ideas, methods, and madness are welcome here.
DM,
She’s moving along. If you decide to go electric, do you have an idea what components you will use? I know next to absolutely nothing about the electric components.
Daddyo
Sounds to me like you are on a roll....
Grey Beard,
Did you get what you need for templates. I forgot to look but I think everything (bulk heads and ribs) are drawn out on the plans. If not, I bet we can get you hooked up.
I managed a little time for the “triplets” build yesterday. I even snapped a few pictures. Just did not get the chance to put together a post. I don’t have the pics here so I’ll post all that tonight along with what, if any, I get done tonight.

I'm going to have to break down and buy another kit, seems I tossed the plans for the Up-Roar or just stuck them in that mystery place in my shop. I found I have plans for Bipes up the wazoo, for a couple of years all I was building had to have two wings, glad I got over that!!!

Well get them workin!!
I originally planned to put an eflite power 46 outrunner but now i decided to keep it nitro, this platform is going to be too much of a pain to get batts in there, so thats why I have the outrunner mount on the front im going to have to cut off now.
Anyways got the wing partially completed, i'll finish trimming the airplane out once the tail and ailerons on on it, keeping the covering job pretty simple.

Here is what I have done the last couple of days. I actually think I am ready to break out the glue bottle now....
I set up my table saw to cut bevels for the hinge lines (pictures 1 and 2). By the way the long skinny sticks are my wooden fingers used to push the parts through the saw. You can see the rudder parts at the hinge line (Picture 3). While I was at it I also cut some 45° bevels on the edges of the perimeter pieces to help me out when the sanding starts (pictures 4 & 5). I used some 1/4" X 3/4" again from my stash to cut triangle braces (picture6) using my scroll saw and a combination of a 4” and 8” disc sander to get the angles and a clean square edge.
I also tried putting 1/8” x 3/8” deep lightening holes in the trailing edge sticks of the rudder and elevators. I set up a fence and the depth stop on my little drill press to make it quick and easy (picture 8). But, as you can see in the pictures 7 & 9 that was a waste of time. It amounted to less than 1 gram per plane difference.

Looking good. That is quite a production line you have going there.
The lightening holes were a good idea, but with the engines you are planning on using, you're probably going to need all the weight you can get back there.

I reshaped the stab center blocks, to fit my redesign, by pinning all three together and using my 8” disk sander to get the angles right and centered.
One of the neat things about cutting and fitting the way I do, and with the help of CA, I can use some unorthodox methods for gluing pieces together. I have a small flat rock/stone whatever, covered it with wax paper and covered an aluminum block with wax paper and clamped it. In picture 4 I just set it on top of my stuff so I could get a picture. I’ll let the pictures tell the rest of the story.
I am sanding, rounding off all the inside corners of the triangle braces as I go.
In the last picture you can see the partially framed up rudders.

I love the smell of CA & Balsa in the evening....[sm=stupid.gif]
This project is going to take me a little longer than I thought it would[]. Gee, thats never happened to a model builder before.
On with the build:
1 – A little more traditional set up for jigging up the vertical stab to glue the three together.
2 – Laying out the “sub assemblies” to glue
3 – The main frame glued up
4 – I drilled holes in the internal bracing so that the hot air can move around in the covering process
5 – Bracing glued in and the 1/16” drill with pin vise I used to drill the holes.
6 – Three vertical stabilizers (fins) done. I drilled into the rear post where one of the hinges will be so that the air can escape from inside the frame. Also the emery board that I used to sand all the inside edges and cross braces

I’ll post up some more pictures just because I can. Not Much to write about that has not already been typed. I “jigged” up for building the rudders much the same way I did the vertical stabilizers. Pictures 1 – 3 show the alignment jig and the fitting process/order. Once again you can see I have been drilling the 1/16” holes in the cross braces for air venting (picture 4) as well as sanding the long edges of the braces before gluing them in. Picture 5 gives a little more of a feel as to what my set-up looks like compared to stock. Picture 6- well, three vertical fins and rudders complete. Horizontal stabs up next......

This almost sounds like a reference to full scale???

Looks good! I just spent the last 30minutes building the rudder and fin, just need to do te ailerons, bevel everything, cover it, and DONE!
And yes, I started flying a lot again, I have had my private for awhile now, took a break, and now I just started working on my instrument[8D]

Not much to write about except here is more of the same. I have the three stabs built. Used the same “M-O-M” method of madness as on the rudder and fin. Here’s some pictures just to show the progress.
DM...
Man, I don’t know what to say. Other than I can not keep up with your building speed[]. I definitely have more than an hour and a half (3 X 30 minutes) in the tail feathers. Anyway, yours is getting there & looks good. By the way, good luck with the “instrument rating”.....

RE: Tower Hobbies Uproar 40 build
The main thing about Uproars that I usually change out is the main landing gear. I just chunk them over to the side and relace them with the alum or fiberglass more substatial type. I also use leftover ply to reinforce the landing gear area and use balsa to reinforce the area where the fuse joines the wing. But I really want this one to be light, so I plan on using the stock gear and just solder a straight wire across to firm up the gear and prevent it from spreading out on those not so perfect landings, lol...Another thing I do is on the tailwheel assembly is put a leftover control horn plate on either side of the steering rod that goes into the rudder to prevent it from pulling out.

RE: Tower Hobbies Uproar 40 build
I actually love the main gear on these planes. During a fun fly 'limbo-loops' contest this year, I had a clevis pop off from my elevator. I was half way through a loop, and my Dazzler appeared to go straight into the tall grass. It looked bad, but I guess it managed to rotate a bit more and just pancaked in. I expected to find a wrecked plane in the grass, but it was actually in perfect shape, with just a little re-bending of the landing gear needed.
I think stronger gear would have seriously damaged my plane in that situation. But I fly with a .46LA, I can see that with a ST-51 there might be a call for stronger landing gear.
