Great Planes 60 Size Extra totally 3D, (RELOADED)
Hi guys
Long time ago, I read this post, and never found out if it was a reliable 3D flier, last week send an email to CAPtain232, who made the original, but had no answer, So i´m trying to find out if it´s a reliable 3D, sure i´m not going to do the same but i´m going try make it light a good as i can. So i go.
I´m going start drawing the ribs of stabs, horizontal and vertical, i drew it really wide, but need to change cause the tail can´t be wide as de midle of the fuse.
There are some pictures

pacorro,
There is a build thread a little farther down the page. I just got the first flight on mine on Thanksgiving day. It was a easy build for me. I put a larger counter balance on the rudder and put counter balances on the elevator also.
Good Luck
Alan

Hi Alan
Thanks, and yes, I saw that thread a little further, and of course y read it too, any way i will go just a little far than the original one, but everything at his time.
It´s yours a reliable 3D flier?, did you modified the win from 64´to 70 3/4´?, what´s the final weight? please if you could answer me i´ll be really pleased.
Thanks, Paco

Hey again pacorro,
I have flown mine now about 5 times. I did not widen the wings. I did make counter blances on the elevators as well as widen them. I also made the counter balance on the rudder larger. I am not a 3d pilot, but I think it would. I have a saito 120 with a vess 16x6 prop running on 15% fuel. I was able to balance it without adding any weight. I would think with where my servos are you could go with a 150 and still balance it without adding any weight. I have not weighed mine, but I will try and let you know.
good luck
Alan

RE: Great Planes 60 Size Extra totally 3D, (RELOADED)
Glad to read you again Alan.
I got time to think about wings and fuse, but there´s one thing that i´m worried about, is the snap speed, i think
it´s more important dihedral than a rib more wide or longer wing, so i´m deciding to make anhedral wings, anyway
i have to think about.
About engine, this kit i dit 2 before (not modified), first was really light but a radio interference make it early died, with 5 flights (was weak too) second i got yet, is about 3,9 Kg and first engine i put was a YS 110FZ plenty of power, knife edge at half throttle
i change to OS 91FX, same as first, much better.
This is Fin developement and main frame

Yet on fin , need some glue and sanding work.
The chance of anhedral wings i think must be better for 3D cause when the dihedral increases, reactions after lose stability are really harsh and dihedral decreases are smooth and easy to control, any way i have a long way until i start wings, thinking to do fuse first

Hi.
I´m with the wing but near to finish, as long as a i can see , in thr photos can´t see that ribs are wide than original, and of couse anhedral, the ailerons are 1 inche bigger,

You'd need to re-do the wing so that each aileron was at least 30-50% of the wing's area, enlarge elevators so that they are 50-60% of the horizontal tail area, enlarge rudder so that it's about 50-60% of the vertical tail area, greatly lighten the airframe so that you can have an engine/prop combination that develops more thrust than the aircraft weighs, and on and on. Basically, you'll need to completely redesign the wing and the tail surfaces. Check out the models intended for 3D type flying. They have very large control surfaces and are very light for the engine size used.

Bill, Thanks, not i´m not in time, what is near than you suggest is the fin 60%, the H stab is an 42% and ailerons don´t arrive at 26%.
When i was drowning the stabs i remember more than 50% in the horizontal would need a really powerfull servo (more weight and much more money) and the aileron are the same % than de Extra 230 27% of Camodel, and this is a reliable 3D flier. Other thing in my midification i put up 1/s inch the wing, was too thin and weak the base of fuse, the most of fuse is balsa, as chinese building and the ply is really thin, see photos
Anyway Bill, will finish this one first and will get on mind your suggestion, perhaps would make the fourth of GP Extra 60

I finished the wings, now the fuse have all my attention, i made it in a thin ply, tried to reinforce the landing gear area and waiting a carbon fiber landing gear from china, i ordered one, really light (65 grm)but did´t pay attention enough and came a wrong one.
The left and right side of the fuse are in balsa 3 mm combinated with light ply, but i´m thinking perhaps its not going a be strong enough to support the wings

I have glued the two side of the fuse R & L, although between both y put the horizontal stabilizer, checked the fin and noticed was 1mm too thik, so after sanding for a while i glued too, and checked, 90ª between stabilizer H & V.
This morning i´m been sanding the fuse and took somo pictures
