I still have one, it's been down for a while until I can recover it. Building it is straight forward, it's a Bridi so no surprises. I have flown the Kaos in every size I think was ever made and one thing about them, they all fly the same, the smaller they are the faster there roll rate is about the only difference, they all make me look like I know how to fly!!! Did you find an old Bridi kit or is Blue Jay now making the big one? In a few weeks I will be starting my replacement for my old Bridi Kaos, the Dirty Birdi, a Blue Jay kit.

Go into MANs [ model airplane news} plans department and take a look. I buy plans these days then buy my wood from Lone Star Balsa, I buy a lot more then needed for any one plane, that way I always have wood on hand. I buy my stuff as money finds it's way into my pocket so it's not a big cash outlay all at one time. If you are just buying for one plane the kit can be a better deal but I have a stock pile of plans and wood so after the first plane the wood is free for a couple more. You still have to buy covering and hardware but in the end my planes start to cost a lot less then kits or ARFs. I stock pile things when I see a good sale. It only takes a couple of hours to cut your own kit. I know MAN has the 90 or 120 Kaos plans.

Being an old guy and loving the memories of my .60 Kaos of the early 60,s I am interested in the Blue Jay Big Kaos. Is anyone flying one of these kits? What set-up are you using?

Same kit as a Bridi, mine was an original. I ended up stuffing it just before the first of the year. In my case I folded the wing while showing off.{ I mean putting on a flying exhibition} The last set up I used was an RC Showcase 1.40 22cc gas engine. PCM RX and Hitec 6985 digital servos. I used those servos just because I had them under the bench. Any good servo around 70 inch pounds would be more then fine. Remember, when this plane was designed a good servo was about 48 inch pounds so it doesn't really require a lot. If it wasn't such a good flying machine I wouldn't have been putting on such a fine air show. I was just going way too fast and hitting the snap roll switch while in a climb. It did a better flat spin then my 60 size. Mater of fact it did everything a lot smoother due to the size.

That's about the same set-up I had in mind. Here is what I was thinking: DLE20 or DLE30 depending on the weight needed to balance. Servos, I'm not certain. Radio will be HiTec A9 powered by a P04 battery. For simplicity/reliability I won't do retracts.

If you see any negatives, let me know. Thanks for the reply.

I haven't got to work with the DLE 20 yet but the 30 is outstanding, so is the 55. I think a 30 would be great in this plane. Mine was just too old and had a real dumbass at the controls. Big planes don't like to roll as fast as smaller planes. I also built the Blue Jay/Bridi Dirty Birdy 60. That plane flew better then my 60 Kaos. Lost that one right away in a mid air. My first mid air and my brand new plane!! A no fault accident. I go for decades without loosing a plane and then I lost three in one year.

I think the 20 is about equivalent to a 1.20 2-stroke and the 30s swing a larger prop than a 1.80 4-stroke. Sorry about your experience. Good that things come in three's. Now it is OVER![8D]

1.20 is 20cc, 1.40 is 22cc now you can do the math. Both my Kaos planes were around 20 years old, bot of the crashes were an operator malfunction. I just had eye surgery and wasn't seeing well when I lost my 60. The header broke off the engine while in a flat spin and I was too low to pull out without power. I shouldn't have been flying. I was over flying my giant Kaos and folded the wing, dumbass pilot thing. The Dirty Birdy was my replacement for the small Kaos. Mid air first flight of it's second day of life. I put that one in the file of ****happens. The DBs mid air was a hart breaker. Talk about a nice stable plane. The build is a bit harder then the Kaos but the finished product is worth it.
