Default OS 70 in a clipped wing cub

Hi,

Currently building a Great Planes J3 cub in the clipped wing version. I was going to power it with an OS 70 four stroke. Will this plane be too under powered? Your comments please.

I had a 70 Surpass in a 40-size CG Cub clipped,,it was a great combo,, a 91 is almost too much

It really depends on you,
if you want to fly scale like aerobatics a 70 is plenty with power to spare,,
if you want to do 3-D and hang it on the prop all day,, you'd need a 91

have fun

Hi Grey Beard. Was your Cub a clipped wing or a full wing version? My cowl is also a little weighty at 3.6 oz. Think this will be an issue?

That sounds like a good combination to me.

I have a OS 70 in my 40 size Stik and it's a
blast to fly.

My Hangar 9 80" J-3 with OS 70 Surpass II is a great combo. Clipped wing will just make it have a better roll rate.

I have a sig 1/5 scale with a os .70 full span. It is a very good combo. I would think that a clipped wing would only make it better.
Thanks

Mine was both at one point or another, it was given away with an 80 inch wing on it so it was even a giant scale at one point, well, IMAA legal anyway.

I had one about 6 years ago.
Great Planes clipped wing with OS70 and covered in EasyTex. (when EasyTex was cheap!)
Fiberglass cowl.
Loved it!
I will build another as soon as I can find a kit under $100.
I already have bought a OS70 just for that specific reason.
Great combination.
I wish there was an ARC so I could cover mine the way I want and clip the wings.

I building a Goldberg clipped wing and was going to use a Saito .72 I have. But my old Cub needed some nose weight to balance ,so I might just pick up a Magnum,70. I,ve had really good luck with them.
