Hobby King Covering film any good?
Have any of you used Hobby King covering film? Tell me what you think of it. I use mostly Ultracote but this stuff from China is very tempting at the price. The reviews on their site look good but you never know about that.

Somebody else in here asked if it was any good, only one person on the fourm chimed in and said it worked excellent. If it's anything like the stuff on my nitro models/CMP christen eagle, I'd say get as many rolls of it as you want. The stuff that's on my christen eagle is pretty impressive, shrinks well, stays put and is not transparent at all.

If its the same as another chinese covering called "toughlon" , I found its adhesive a little weak in that the shrink side of the covering will pull it straight off from around a 90 degree corner, but apart from that, good stuff. The amount it shrank amazed me compared to others I have used.

I bought one roll to try and went back and bought six more. The checkerboards are a real bargain. I like it better than Monokote and Ithink it is comparable to Ultracoat. Check out the heat range comments in the site reviews (lower temps) they will help you adjust to it's properties. The rolls are longer and useable from side to side; no edge waste.

I thought the price would be cheaper, considering it's HK and all. For 10 or 12 bucks savings per plane (in my case), I'll stick with what I know.

the shipping is kinda high, but you get 15 1/2 feet per roll for 12.95 each thats two and a half rolls of monokote. but if it's not as good as ultracote i wont buy it at any price

I've covered a couple models with Hobby King Covering. It seemed to me to require MORE heat than Monocote, but once I adjusted to working with it I can't complain about and will buy more.

I felt that it required a lower iron setting than monocoat but it has been a while since I used lots of monocoat. I think it works just fine. I do not think that it is as stretchy as ultracoat. You need to order a few rolls to compensate for the shipping but I find the color between rolls to be very good matches. (I cannot say that for monocoat) I use quite a bit of it. I want to try sticking trim pieces with the monocoat trim solvent. I tried acetone and the adhesion wasn't good enough. I have not used their transparent films yet. I like it but there are not as many colors as I would like. A five meter roll is quite a lot of film.

Has anyone figured out matching paint for any of the colors? Would love to have the exact mix for Dupont Chroma in red and yellow....The Chroma gun does not always give the correct mix.

RE: Hobby King Covering film any good?
I just got 10m of white, 5m of red and 5m of black shipped downunder. It cost me $70US which might seem a bit high for you guys over there but to buy 20m of covering here would cost at least $150 and that would be for Solarfilm (Monocote). I'm only new and haven't covered a plane before but bought this stuff to cover my LT-40 on the recommendation of all the guys at my local club. They all use it and think it is better than monocote?
