Default Balsarite For Film

Can anyone tell me if Balsarite for film will make an adequate adhesive to attach Sig Koverall? I'm out of Stixitbut I found an old can of Balsarite for filmthat I would like to use if it will work properly.

Take a scrap piece of wood and covering, use the Balsarite, and post the result.

Simple

I just finished doing that very test. It seemed to stick very well. I built a light frame about 6" x 6" and applied the Balsarite and let it dry. Then I stuck down the Koverall and it held very well. Boy did that frame warp.

I don't think there is any difference between the film formula and the fabric formula except for the degree of thinner in the mix. You said it was an old can of film formula was it way thin still or had it started to thicken up some? I always just bought the fabric formula and then if I wanted to use it on film I added some dope thinner to get it to the consistency I wanted.

Hey Mike,
This can of Balsarite was the consistency of water. It's about 15 yrs. old and light brown in color.

I always use the film formula for Koverall. The fabric formula is just too thick and messy. I use one coat for adhesive backed film and two coats for Koverall. Works great.

You are suppose to thin the balsarite with ironex 50-50. ironex will evaporate faster than u can say OMG. dries very thin and covering sticks like white on rice. i use it all the time with normal covering to increas adhesion in stressed areas...

I was just going to report that with only one coat of BR the Koverall peeledoff my homemade frame very easily. I would bet that with 2 coats of BR it would stay suck stupendously.

Try thining it with ironex. it will soak in a lot further making a much better grab. When I pull off covering it takes balsa with it.

I switched to balsarite for the exact same reason.  ran out of Stix-it.  That was my last model.  On my current build I made sure I had plenty of stix-it.  I cant put my finger on it exactly.  I just like the stix-it better.  It seems to go on easier.  Both have plenty of hold.  IMHO.
