The box is the same as in the picture. You're right it may not be the one you sold him. Really doesn't matter other than "it's a small world" coolness factor if I had your kit.
I have been looking off and on for years. The Komander was the first RC plane I ever saw (1983). I was in college and had been flying a little CL. It was my first RC kit as well, and I earned my wings on it with the help of a local club instructor. Flew it for years until I got anxious to fly one weekend and had no field to go to. Thought I could go to a local HS ball field, and hit a powerline. Cut it in half. The foam looked like a snow ball burst, so not much left. I kept all the hardware and radio.
I really don't know how rare they are now, so I hate to build this one. I am thinking of building a copy using the kit for a "template". I have my old parts (including the old canopy) and just bought the cowl from FS. Plan on trying my hand at hot wire cutting or finding a local source. I think the craft is coming back with all the new foamies.

There is a company that cuts wing cores for this plane.....I can't think of the name at the moment....maybe I'll remember after some coffee.
As far as rare, I know they are hard to find, but the people that know of this kit are somewhat fewer.
A sealed kit just sold.......I wish I had that one! lol

For the discussion of FS cowl thickness/size. I just measured with a digital caliper both the FS and original. The plastic one is about 0.033in thick and the FS ranges from 0.025-0.035 around the edge of the perimeter (thinner on top and thicker on the sides). It has an extra layer of fiberglass around the inside perimeter, so it is a little stiffer. Both fit inside each other identically. The FS has a very slightly wider radius on top. Fitted end to end the FS is wider by about half the thickness of the material. Extremely close.

Your FS cowl is a way better match then mine....
I bought mine about 2 years ago......it's paper thin, and I cannot use it without building up 1/16" all around it.
Having to do that much bodywork on it, I may as well get back to work on my hotrod in the garage. lol
Post pictures of your build!
Maybe I'll build one too.....(From scratch of course....I want to keep the original kit, since it took me 3 decades to acquire it!)

Just looked for it, it is not in with the templates. This has happened on a
few wings the first time i have some one ask for them. The list is from the
previous owner (10 years ago) of the wing biz, and not all the templates made it
through the transition for some reason. It does not get update until I get a
request.

I just sent Eureka Aircraft the details they requested to make a set of foam cores. I attached a PDF of the fuselage plans that includes the wing profile. Also the measurements of the cores. I'll include them here for info of anyone that needs them.

12.5"=Root Cord (11.0 foam + 0.25LE + 0.25TE + 1.0 aileron)
8.25"=Tip Cord (6.75 foam + 0.25LE + 0.25TE + 1.0 aileron)
+1.5"=Sweep Back
1.7"=Profile at Thickest Point (includes 1/16 top sheeting and 1/16 bottom sheeting)
0.25"=Thickness of LE material
1.25"=Thickness of TE material (includes 0.25" TE + 1.0" Aileron)

Gentlemen, I have always wanted to build this kit. It looks like there is a reliable supplier for the canopy, but the cowl is off. Maybe someone here that has an original cowl can make a mold? I would be in for 2-3 cowls. Can someone do photo copies of the plans? I would gladly pay whatever the price. The manual is already available on that Sig site. And we could approach Eureka for a group buy on the foam cores. I'm good for 2 sets.

That's everything that is needed for a completely build-able kit.

Tampa, I have a set of fuselage plans (17.5" x 24" ) and am try to find someone to PDF them locally. I just got a kit off eBay but it did not have the plans in it. The set I have are from my long gone Komander from 1983.
Did you check parkflyerplastic for the canopy? There is an older post on this thread that they had them.

They really aren't full plans. The kit was built from the booklet and the "plans" part were printed on the wood. You assembled the fuselage on the printed wood and then used the paper plan to put the two halves together. I'm afraid one would need both.
Now all is not lost. I have a full kit that I want to save, but build a clone from. I just need to find someone that I can get to scan the printed wood, and make a full set of plans from that. I just got the kit so I'm working on it. Just got the cores sourced.

Putting the sources together to allow a kit to be replicated, is almost as much fun as the building itself!
I feel a bit sorry for the people that only know ARFs.....because they are robbed of the fun in the creation.

Sorry I misread that you were looking for the cowl, not canopy. I just bought a cowl from fiberglassspecialtiesinc.com last week. It is almost identical to the original plastic cowl. No issues.
