Hey....., I like it, looks really nice. I like the color scheme you chose. What are you useing for power up front? I'm guessing the US 60 is next on the board.

I've got an OS 70 Surpass II in the nose.

And yes, note that the third pic is the newly-opened US60 box

Helllo MinnFlyer,

You sure deserve congratulations for a well made model.
It looks superb.

I am a bit curious about the OS 70 Surpass.
Do I see a thin blade electric prop in the picture ?

No, that is an APC 11x6 glow prop, which will actually be replaced with a Graupner 11x7 before it flies, but the APC was all I had on hand at the time

Are you going to start a new Ultra Sport Build Thread Mike? I am just starting a Ultra Sport 60 too..I just finished my North Star..I am hoping to maiden it NewYears Day off the snow ( if we have any ) at our annual fun fly...Have you tried the E Flite electric retracts ? I haven't installed a set of retracts yet and I have heard so many negative things about them I want the easiest instalation and the strongest retract I can get..I fly off a fairly rough field...

No, I haven't tried the E-Flite retracts. I used to make my own back in my days as a machinist and I still have a few sets that I use. I'm going to use the Electrics from HK in this one - But I'm going to set them up so that if they crap out I can easily install a set of mine.

I will probably do a build thread, but not "As I go along" It's going to take me a while to finish this one because I've got several things keeping me busy for the next few months and I just found out that a few review items are on the way (What ever happened to winter breaks?)

So what I may do is to document the build, and then do the whole thread start-to-finish. This way it doesn't get clogged up with other's posting THEIR progress and the inevitable "What's the status? You haven't posted in a few weeks" type of posts.

Thanks Mike . Ya I can appreciate how busy you must get espially this time of year.. So far the Ultra Sport Build seems pretty straight forward..The only part that has me worried is the retracts...I will figure that out when I get there..One bay further out etc.. Happy New year to you and yours..I hope your Dad is doing good..What a amazing man he is..To have the flying skill that he has at this point in his life is wonderfull..I bet you hope he passes that on to you...

The "One-bay-out" mod is a piece of cake:

There are four, 1/16" ply doublers for ribs 3 and 4 (One for each rib on both sides of the wing) The two that go on rib #3 are a little larger than the 2 for rib #4.

Take the two larger ones, align Rib #5 with one of the spar slots, trace the outline of the rib onto the #3 doubler and remove the excess.

It doesn't have to be perfect. In fact, better that it's a little smaller than the rib than larger!

Aside from that, there is nothing special that you need to do.

I love Graupner props. They've outperformed every other brand on engines from my little Coxes right on up to my .90 4-stroker (they're nigh onto indestructible too, as far as props go).

Yea, I can't believe more people don't use them, but then, they ARE hard to find!
It is the same old story ___

What came first? .... The hen ... or .... The egg?

Hard to find ___

They do not sell because they are not stocked . . .
They are not stocked because they do not sell.

Many businesses aim at turning their inventory over every 3 months or so.
They use computer inventory software and set minimums and maximum in stock.
At the end of the three months, if a new order has not been automatically generated (meanng low sales) the stock is automatically set to zero. No more orders are to be generated and soon no more stock is kept.

I know because in the 1980s I setup such a system for replacement parts for items we were handling.

Happy New Year,

Zor

ou're absolutely right Zor. I just wish more people would try them.

Hobby Lobby used to carry them and I thought, "Oh good, now people will start using them". But HL never advertised them. I use them in most of my reviews just to try to get people to try them.

They are by far my preferred prop for most non-3D applications. (They don't really make any 3D sizes)

They may be great props but I think for the average sport flyer they are too expensive. I just went to the site mentioned and put 6 average size props (10X6, 11X6, 11X7)in my cart and the total was $42 before shipping. I have some Graupner props and have used them in the past and have no complaints except price. My hobby dollars are tight so I have to spend carefully.

Hello everyone, been following the thread and would like to show my first Ultrasport 40.Built from a kit it has fixed gear,Magnum .61xl 2 stroke.Fuselage is glassed and painted, wing is covered in monokote.Moved servos to tail to offset heavier engine.Has only had one flight so far but am very pleased.Nice and smooth, plenty of power ,needs some fine tuning on the plane and engine.

I like the fact that you kept the wingtips flat on the ends - I do that too. I just think it looks better AND it's less work.
