Hi all, just putting some finishing touches on my us 1000 , it took almost 3 years and who knows how much money.
As I say there are no shortcuts to perfection, but it's not perfect but close. Hardest build I ever had .
Will post pics in a few days

Would love to see a picture of your work. Good craftsmanship does take time, that's for sure...I have a US 1000 in my closet that I bought, was thinking that it may be my next build. Curious, what in your opinion made this build so difficult?

Kind of surprised, no posts from anyone with the new .46 size arf? I know it's kinda small... but I bought one anyway..Should be finishing up the build this week, I will post a couple pics when finished. I went with a YS FZ80 for power, power won't be an issue!

Default Dihedral

I have heard that the new one does not have any dihedral. It should. The dihedral that was included in the original made it a much more hands-off flyer.

Default Dihedral

The lack of dihedral is on the VQ MODELS Taipan. I am not aware that the new Great Planes Ultrasport 46 is lacking dihedral.

Some of the posters on RCG have said that the new GP Ultrasport also has no dihedral. A close look at the photos on Tower's website seems to verify that. Maybe camss69 can tell us if it is true.

Looking at mine, the 46 has little to no dihedral... that's ok for me, I don't remember my 1000 having any dihedral either. The FZ80 fits this airframe like a glove, can't wait to fly this thing!

I built my us60 w half the dihedral the plans called for, on purpose! that is exactly what my sons Tiapan has. I think it fly's better without it. that change makes it hold banks better, stall turns are to die for, wingovers are easier. the disadvantage is that on landing it will hold a slight bank not letting the dihedral settle it out. but if you are flying this plane that should not be a problem for you.

Flew the US 46 last weekend. The YS FZ80S is a perfect match for the plane, the OS 55AX was also awesome on it, The plane flys as expected, fast and smooth but then slows down to a crawl for landing. Had no issues with anything except my canopy was a little loose fitting. It's a great flying nice looking plane that flys well out of the box. Only recommendation is I would aim to balance towards the aft end of the recommended CG range. I'm towards the middle and it was more nose heavy that I would like, took more down elevator when inverted than I would like. We had a great time though and we both were laughing and having a good old time with them.

I did the same Joe, went with the flat yard stick across the top and it still flys very good, Ive always heard that kaos wings and ultras should be flat on top.

Love my US60. Recently swap out the Tower Hobbies 75 for an OS 75AX. Had problems with keeping the TH engine running. The OS has been running great. Would like to get another kit as back up but notice the price is $179.99 and out of stock. Seams like a lot for a kit but its a good plane.

Hey Lonestoner,

Great looking US1000. It's reminiscent of Dave Brown's old Illusion and Tiporare. Good luck with your maiden.

Thanks hrrcflyer,
maiden was 2 weeks ago ,two clicks down elevator that's all it needed to be trimmed .
The aircraft came out heavy but it flies solid and stable with no bad tendencies .not as fast as I had hoped for but maybe that's due to only being a 140 size engine onboard .
the ultrasport will do any maneuver that i wanna try so far . Not sure on knife edge speed is just not there . Currently using an apc 17x6 prop I will be *****g out prop size with a wood 18x6 and see if it pulls any better .using fai fuel currently per moki Manuel and engine is still being broke in so not revving at full tilt
that's all folks ,oh one last thing Real easy to see in the sky and handles wind super good I fly here at the AMA with usual 20 mph gusts
