Funny how marketing works.

They have a newly designed 72" Ultra Sport.
They want to sell it but it's at a time, right in the middle of the "IMAA LEGAL" era.

So they have a choice.
Try to sell it as is "72" wing" and compete against their own Super Sporster 90/120
Design an enlarged true 80" one.
Or go cheap and stretch the wing out to 80" on the 72" frame. Taking the Chaos aerobatic wing and turning it into the Cloud Dancer 120's high aspect ratio "floaty" wing.

If I was running things I'd have insisted on an enlagred 86" one using the Super Tigre G-4500 for power

My stretch US-60 is RCM prints enlaged 15%. Wing span 71", Fuse 60", horiz stabilizer 27". I will be running a 120 AX on EI for power. The flaps and ailerons will be 50-50 in size. The flaps will work both up and down being tied into the elevator control.

LOL, that's an enlargement not a stretch. A stretch is where you take the 60 and elongate the moments without increasing the size of the frame. Like the Dynaflite Butterfly wich is a stretched .30 size sport plane.

I've decided to sell my US 1000 NIB kit. It's on the marketplace right now.

I put in an order with RCM plans for a set of US 60 plans. I can scale the design up or down from the 60 plans so no need to even worry about the US 1000. Right now I'm thinking about a US twin powered by two Super Tigre 2300's and an 46 size electric one.

I think I have the last piece of the puzzle, or second to last! (last being time to build) I have a custom ignition for my little gas engine. I was going to use a JBA15 but now thinking a Super Tigre 90 gas conversion. I happened to acquire one for a pretty fair price. Found some NOS Walbro carbs so it's time for a little bench running. Looks like with a 8-10 ounce tank there is plenty of room for the ignition up there.

I am cutting parts for my RCM US 60 up sized 15% right now. Got my OS 120 AX last week and retracks should be here in a few weeks. I have RCM US 1000 plans being up sized 25%. 92 inch wing span. The wing is being cut by Eureka Aircraft, they also cut my 15% wing for my 60. Have to think abount what engine to use on the 25% 1000, maybe a 80 cc  gas twin.

Very good starting price too. Won't stay that way for long though. I'll bet it sells for less than $300.

It would go for $350 without the motor. Then again the 2500 is big'ol heavy chunk of metal. I like the looks of the new 2300's I need to get ahold of one and see how it will do on a 3-blade prop.

I wish i can sell mine but I'm not going to ship it way too much trouble and way too many horror stories of fellow modelers that tries to ship and the model disappears and the seller is out of money and the buyer gets their money back and maybe a airplane for free.

I have a ST 2300 on mine and I have to tell you I have never considered trying a three blade on my engine, I have always ran a 17-6 apc IMAC prop

any tricks on "sanding to a 3/32 taper" on my rudder and elevator halves (1/4 balsa)?  Or is it just sand, compare to plan, sand some more, compare to plan?

Nope no tricks just draw one center line and two more edge lines to get you the narrow point and then get you some 80 to 120 grit to start and then sand and compare to your liking. Take your time is the fundamental thing to remember, you can sand away but its a PITA to add material that you sanded away.

You could make up a jig like you do for leading edges to use as a guide.

I draw two lines by laying the rudder flat and laying a pen or pencil flat Shim one up if need be.

Draw one line, then flip the rudder over to draw the second.

The pic is of an aileron, but it's the same principle

corch,

You have to work on only one face.

Use a 3/32" thikness of metal or hard wood to place along the trailing edge you are bringing to 3/32" thick.

Sand down to that thckness. The metal strip or hard wood will prevent sanding thinner.
Watch that you are not attacking the 1/4" at the leading edge.

Use a long straight and flat sanding bar to which you glued 80 or 120 grit on one face and 240 or 320 grit on the opposite face; or make two sanding bars with the different grits.

The sanding bars can be 1 1/2" to 2" wide and about 8 to 12" long .

The leading edge will result in being 90 degrees to only one face but you will sand that to angles anyway for clearing the rotation at the hinge line.

Good luck,

Zor

Thanks for the help.  I drew my lines and used some blue tape (so I wouldn't taper the LE).  Wood is a funny thing.....using the same sanding bar with a relatively fresh sheet of 100 grit: 40 strokes on one side, 80 on the other to get it as "perfect" as I could.

I finished covering the wing for my US 40+ last night, someone told me there was a tornado outbreak all around me, I never noticed. I liked the covering scheme that Minnflyer used on his US 40 so much that I copied it on mine. I'll do the same scheme on my US 60 when I get to that point. I used 21st Century Fabric, I know, it's a little heavy but I really like working with the fabric. Here's a couple of pictures, I'll post more when I get the fuselage covered. It was too windy to go flying today so I've been working in the fuse off and on all day.
