I do the same as KaP0211 but I don't always cut it in half . If I install it before the rudder is glued in place I cut the covering and balsa so it fits properly ad then drill two 2-56 bolts thru the bracket and rudder and bolt it in place and yes I use CA also . I have never had one come loose yet. They are a nice tail wheel . If you need to install them after the rudder is glued in place then sometimes its easyest to cut ithe bracket in half or you could just use two control horns if you have them and save the bracket .

Thanks again for all the help, guys! It's about a day from being in flying shape. I still have to solder the Y-pushrod for the flaps (which is currently held in place by a wheel collar as suggested earlier), but I got the camera mount placed today. It's considerably tighter than I had thought under the canopy, but fortunately the plastic adds very little distortion. I did a little taxi/runup with the camera in place today. The video's in HD, but that's going to take several hours to upload with my connection, so I've a much lower-res version as well. I'll update the video link when the HD one's up.

EDIT: HD video is up.

I'm planning on screwing the canopy in place so I can remove it to get at the camera, but I just thought it would be cool to hinge it. Is there anything that could act as a good latch for that, or hinges? Control surface hinges would work, but they'd be a bit big.

Use offset door hinges at the front of the canopy and a panel latch at the rear.

To use any kind of rigid hinges or a latch, you would have to build a frame for the canopy. Just use a piece of high tac tape (Monokote trim sheet?) along one side, and screws on the other side. Unscrew it and flip it over to the taped side for access.

Do Not use Monokote Trim sheet, unless you want to lose your canopy! Bubble Gum has more holding power!

i fiberglassed the wingjoint last night on my us 1000,
should the fiberglass have a coat of epoxy on the finish , or do you scrape off seepage ??

Scrape it off. If the epoxy cures with a glossy finish there was too much left on. Not a big deal but when you sand it smooth it will take longer and you won't get a smooth transition from the balsa to the fiberglass and it will be visible under the covering.
On the other hand, you don't want it too dry either. I use one of those wonderful fake credit cards they keep sending me in the mail to spread my epoxy and push it into the fiberglass. Sometimes two light coats is better than one heavy one.

You dont have to worry too much on the appearance of your wing joint on the Ultra Stoner because you dont see the top and the bottom either beacause it is faired into the fuse with balsa.

Gotcha, I think it is best to have the cloth saturated. I cover it with food wrap or wax paper and smooth it out.

This is interesting about the fiberglassing. I have done it in the past. But I never learned what thickness of cloth to use for specific applications. Are there any guidellines to follow when selecting fiberglass cloth thickness (weight)?

Not sure about guidlines but the LHS sells it in one or two different widths specifically for wing joints. Speaking of guidlines I like the direction for the Ultrasport that says to draw a line out half the distance of the width of the cloth from the centre line to keep it straight and centered. I have made some pretty wavy non centered joints before finding this out.

first flight of my freshly built US 60 today. Everything worked pretty much perfect. Two clicks on the aileron trim and she flew straight as an arrow. What a great flying machine
Only drawback is that it lands FAST. Maybye it is a bit nose heavy.
