Pico Waco YMF-3, 1/5 scale on floats
I'm new here and not sure if this is the right area to post my project I started a few weeks ago. I'm building a Pico Waco YMF-3, 1/5 scale biplane. I plan on installing GPs build up floats on this bird. My problem is the location of the rear strut on the plane going down to the floats. I can't find any information on the best location and most scale way to install this strut. I have found some old photos where it looks like the rear strut is attached to the leading edge of the lower wing. Is this location a "can do"? Or should I install the strut behind the wing on the Fuselage. The wing is built but can still be reinforced for the stress of carrying a pair of floats. I plan on using the landing gear for the front. I've been flying float planes for years but never a Waco biplane. I know how to reinforce the areas of the strut mounts. I hope I made this understandable..Let me know and I'll explain better if I can.
Any help or information anyone can give me would be greatly appreciated. Gerry

RE: Pico Waco YMF-3, 1/5 scale on floats
Thanks Stickbuilder,
I have been all over "Golden Age, Vintage and Antiques" wanting to find where to do a new post on float installation on a Waco YMF- 3, Pico kit. I didread back in 2006, you were thinking of or did install floats on a Waco YMF that you had. Did you install floats and if you did, can you tell me how you attached the aft strut to the plane? I believe the strutto bekept scale, be attached to the Bulkhead at the Leading edge of the lower wing going down to the floats, is this correct? I have found some old photos, not very good photos and really don't know for sure. What is your opinion? Any input would be greatly appreciated. The powerplanned will be anOS 160 twin hoping this is enough power to get her off the water. Also plan on installing a servo in the floats for the float rudders. I'm building as I go and I'm at the stage now where I need to know where the strut is to be attached. I'm also doing Balsarite inside & outof the fuselage & wing in case I dip the plane in the lake. I have been flying on floats for years, but never on a Waco.
I have been reading your input on a lot of threads on here and feel you can guild me..I think..lol. Let me know what you think.
