Hi my friend,
Your Ryan looks very fine in time. I`m building on mine since two years. The fuselage, the wings and the tail are done (without finish) It will powered with a Surpass 91. When I`ve learnde to post pics I wil do with Your permission in Your thread) Actually I have no idea to fix the landig gear fairings. I won`t use the orginal landing gear, I substituted them with a gear from the "Black-Horse" Ju 87. It looks a little bit more realistic and in the main reason > it has real springs.
Have You a starting inspiration to fix the whole thing ? At first, I used the original plastic parts as moulds for epoxy-fiberglass-parts.

Totally cool concept for the landing gear...
My attempt at chroming the plastic is not working out as I would like, I am going to find a way to have the large plastic parts chromed after fitting them. I need to design a method that will allow the pants assembly to fit after landing gear wires are installed. Not too difficult, just have soo much to do.
As for the cowl



I don't know if I'm good with this progress.

Ah! You are west of Dresden. My oldest son, Tim, lives in Frankfurt but works in Munich. My wife's grandparents were all German immigrants her mother's family is from north in the Osterholz-Scharmbeck area and another branch was from Prussia. He holds USA and German citizenship.

Believe it or not this is chrome monokote sticky back! It comes 6 inch wide 36 inch long strips, only thing is getting over complex curved surfaces...
Plus I've recently learned fist hand that this stuff cant take any serious heat for s**t. Its likely to melt off around the areas near exhaust pipes.
I bet the plane looks like it has a chrome pom-pom for a cowl 5 minutes into the flight, funny as hell but not the look I'm going after. So, I need to
find another way, I would love to get this stuff chromed, probably make it more durable too.

You probably can find someone to chrome it, but I would be leary of the chrome cracking and falling off since the cowl will flex ...maybe I'm wrong here.

JCWhitney has stainless tape that is really shiny. It's adhesive would be an issue to explore but the material would be fine.

You could use this stuff it would be thinner than the SS tape and may be more flexible. You can buy it by the foot so less waste and less of an invetment.

I`d simply chosen the "classic" John Gosney - painting, so I had not this problem. All my attempts for chroming in the past failed. (I don`t will You demotivate, sorry)........

How about cover the cowl with thin litho plate and then polish it.

I have this kit new in the box unmolested. opened it twice to peek inside over the years. thought maybe someday when I am retired I would build it. thought maybe if the offer was right I'd sell it. anybody interested?

Think i'll try again to get a hold of the seller for the flitemetal, Haven't heard from them since the last time I emailed the contact given...
I've also heard that having the cowl chromed can allow it to crack, it's a better option than letting the heat melt the monokote.
Theres bound to be something...

Are you actually building the original SIG Ryan state kit that came out in the late 60's? I have this kit. Box opened a couple of times and when I saw STP in the decals I said oh wow. You need to contact Ed at scaleaero. He always contacts me back. The flight metal will be tough to put on the cowl. It stretches but not much. Depending on heat it does have glue on backside. Here's my suggestion. Contact Bob violet jetts and buy the 20 can of water base ceramic paint that'll stand up to a propane torch. Paint 3 coats to the inside of the cowl and the heat issue IS gone.

I've changed gears on the Ryan. I'm thinking of selling it in this state to fund my custom truck build.

Good news!!!
My nephew wants this plane and so I'm going to complete this bad boy...
Its going to take a few days to get rolling back into this, scary. I now need to remove that blasted chrome monokote and prep the plastic for flitemetal covering.
