I feel the same way ... Today this detail is getting the treatment. I plan to complete this with the shield attached to the exhaust and floating just inside the opening in the cowl. The image I envision is morphing ( just like the cool metal this morning)as this seems to take on its own life (kind of like Frankenstein's monster, only in chrome).

I'm working on having the plate float in the opening , but my skills are being tested and I may have to resort to a little flite-metal to achieve the look I want. In the end it will look great. I am working on the cowl details now and forming the performance exhaust look I'm aiming for. I am still working on the theme being a Resto-Mod performance aircraft. I am taking some liberty's to complete my project, comparable to how Reno Racers are made from older military aircraft. I'm aiming for something matching a hot street rod that gets attention for the details, the attitude it displays, and the presence it can command; running like a scalded ape helps the whole package. I am aiming for a rough edge to my look to indicate this ***** runs and gets used. There's something about a trailer queen that screams trailer queen, then there's the stuff that lives on the street every day...

So mother natures wins for today...
My yard looks post apocalyptic and I need to address it. I put in a notice to mother nature to postpone my yard till this airplane was done...
Oh well

Doing some painting on the tail section. It's taking some time, should look good. the work is slow as school is coming to the semester close. Really close to completing the hull and then I can concentrate on the wing.

I'm curious with the "R" in the registration number. Prior to 1956, the CAA (now FAA) required civil markings on a vertical surface and wings. "NX" would indicate an Experimental registered aircraft like a production test prototype while "NR" would be a Restricted registration assigned to a special purpose aircraft like a Gee Bee. The markings would be either NX12345 or NR12345 but not both.
Nice model, I'm looking forward to those first flight videos.

I'm taking Liberty with the marking for this fictional racer/restomod. I'm still adding more detail, maybe a story to go with. I tried many different ideas to identify this as something unique and not add too much. I printed many real and fictional identifiers before selling on this -as much for how it looked and the era style. The markings still have more detail being added - so the "R" is for "Restomod". An "era-restored and modified by technology" theme. That's the plan...

Final Two weeks of the semester then mandatory shop cleanup the third week. I'm spending my time at school for the next few weeks, then its crunch time to maiden flight.
The first two are mine, the three blades are from my instructor who has a forge on his property and makes these amazing knives...

it`s a OS Surpass 91, Master Airscrew 14x8, 8400 u/min. I saw a othe SIG Ryan with this engine, 4.9 kg an it goes with half throttle.
To Your kit > build it, build it, build it, it`s realy worth every minute You spend for it. I rebuild the wings like this
It helps realy saving wight, the rest is like the kit. Good luck, I`m sure You will have many fun.....

Throw away the master air screw prop, plastic or nylon does not absorb the harmonics and dampen vibration. Plus they flex terrible and lose pitch. I have switched many props and Xoar brand are awesome value and performance. The balance from the factory is dang near perfect if not so Everytime. I was wondering where you came across your kit. I called Sig in 1984 and talked a while with a lady. Explained in the 6 th grade I saw model airplane news mag in the school library. I was in 6 th grade. The kit was 72.99 back then. Almost a year later I get a call from her, while eating lunch at work this lady gets on the subject of the Ryan. A co-worker says he has this kit unopened. Next thing you know I have it in my basement for 140 dollars. I opened the box and saw the decals, smiled and she sits waiting. Can't believe it's 30 years

I just finished a nice p47, I think you can click on my info and see a few pictures. Lots of bells and whistles . I have Ziroli getting a p38 together for me. I bought gear and engineers. Just need spinners props and wheels. Another 8 bills or so. My sta is years down the road when my flying skills slow down. Then I can enjoy the build. Right now I like the flite metal thing.
