They are worth to have, that's for sure, just the pain of cutting ribs makes me wanna bid on them. Since i have two Planes ready to go i am not too desperate for them, there always comes something along.

Sorry about that! You said you weren't too interested, could have saved a bid war. To make you feel better Ilost the kit auction.

As a note, seller was selling the entire kit in the market place on RCU(and I posted that link too) and another one on eBay, he also had two wing kits one on RCUand the othe on eBay. The one on the market place was listed for 59 bucks but for some reason the market place stopped working and Ialready had a bid in for 12 bucks for the longest time... Icalled Carl Goldberg (great planes) and you can only buy the pieces and the price was ridiculously high (it would have been well over 140)!

I do not own an Ultimate but I do get to fly one and it is a fantastic plane, I have repaired two "rekttied" ones for guys and this time I did away with that DARN pin that holds the top wing on, I got tired of trying to to line it up, I just turned the the piece of metal on the top of the cabane over so that the tabs faced down, made two new tabs to go into the wing that extend down to line up with the holes in the inverted tabs, put the pin back in the wing to hold the tabs , and just put in two bolts in to hook up the new tabs and the inverted ones, sure is a lot easier Mike

Original setup is no good, i have a liitle thicker music wire with a carbon tube in the Wing to guide it thru at intallation and removal.
The other on i have has a square pad wit 4 440 studs in it and bolts right on the modifyed support struts, also have a bolt thru wing cabane modification on that one, much cleaner setup gave me and adjustibility option for possible wing twist elemination worked perfect.

Just a hint with the DLE, ran perfect on the Bench, needed a 1/4 turn more on the HI needle in the Airplane, happend to both of my Engines, they plain died after take of with nose up attitude and about 60 70 feet of the ground, riching up cured it.

I am recovering a CG Ultimate that I purchased and will be changing the cowl. I purchased a new cowl from Fiberglass Specialities. What suggestions do you have for mounting the cowl to the fusalage?

I would really like to see some pics of airplanes that have had the top wing attachment modified to something that is user friendly.

I will post some pics of my modded top wing for you tomorrow.

Peternj,

I was wondering if you and Alfred are thinking about rekitting the Ultimate? If would like an idea.......I would be willing to cut some foam core wings....I have done these for years with great success! just a thought.

That will be great, we are thinking on making a kit, taking in mind all those mods. that people has been doing on it, so it will not be an original blueprint copy, but we will save the flying characteristics and focus on keeping light.
The main idea is to have a backup scheme of every single part of the kit, then in a bad case of an unwanted crash, we all can remake the broken parts and keep a strong brotherhood.
Please note that, at the end, we will share the drawings as a backup and we wont make any profit from them.
Please stay tuned, I am sure that good news are coming along.

Alfred

What a great idea. the ones that I have repaired for guys had one thing in common, the lite ply hold down plate for the cabanes had broken , it meant I had to cut off the top of the fuse to be able to access the area, possibly some sort of removable section or move the attachemnt flush with the top of the fuse might work better, Mike

Thanks for the heads up on that too. Ihave already reinforced the gear to cabanes on each fuse side. I might have to do a bit of glass work as its too late to do raubold's mod.

Which, by the way raubold, may become the new standard!

Alfred, you are right! Good news is in the air!  I bartered plans for hard copies of all the parts which will speed this up thanks to frequent flyer! I will have them scanned and out to you sometime tomorrow in PDF format. I've compared the copies against our copy of the plans and they are a 100% match. Let me know if converting them to TIF or other format would help.

bostonba745, I know you are in need of a wing... hold tight, we almost have everything in electronic format. You can make a request from alfred or myself. Just give a few days to get the complete set of PDFfiles done. The only thing I see that won't be an exact match is the LE and notched TE. But you can still order those from Great Planes (http://www.carlgoldbergproducts.com/.../gbga0053.html)

Alfred, if you/we went with foam core wings they would be lightened and fully sheeted and ready to install servo wiring and join the wings together. And outter wing strut ribs would already be installed.

A question, the last Ulimate I rebuilt for the guy was pretty well demolished from the cockpit forward, I have this wierd habit of taking almost total wreaks and restoring them for people OK the guy brought me the original plans and I got stynied on the landing gear location, the side view on thsse plans show it intruding into the leading edge of the lower wing,it did not make sense to me, I finally just moved the mounting block ahead 3/8 of an inch Mike

in the Carl Goldberg plans it does look like it's protruding into the leading edge about 3/8 of an inch... the thing you need to account for is that the wing is swept back, and only the fuse sides are built up, the block that goes accross clears the tip of the wing, even though it may not look like it on the plans....

on the other hand moving the gear back shouldn't hurt, just be sure to compensate the CG.

there is a lower doubler for the landing gear and wing saddle. If you look at the online manual on page 28 it will show you how it all goes together.
