Raubold, could you please tell us what prop were you using in both engines. Both engines are equivalent in cubic inches, but the gas engine should deliver less power than the 4 cycle, or I am wrong?

RE: Carl Goldberg Ultimate 10-300 Brotherhood.
YS 120 was flown with APC 16.5 X 6.5 and the DLE 20 has an XOAR 17X6 on it. and it perfoms smoother with the gas Engine and same vertical, i dont care about top Rpm and statics, it's like a race car Engine on a Dyno, It just seem to make a small difference in power but saving $ flying gas is a + for me right there. Good combination with the DLE 20cc with that pitch and size propp that's for sure

Hi guys,
My thought for the struts is as follows:
1) Perform the recess mod as shown in my build, this will ensure there isn't side to side movement once everything is secured. I suspect that the approach sill be plenty strong because if twist tourque is applied it will push against the plywood former on one side and pull the against the shaved balsa on the other. Maybe a thin piece of ply wood like the one that the turtle deck is made of to re-enforce would be in order
2) Doubling bass wood block would have to be epoxied onto the ply-wood ribs. It would be the thickness of the rib and taperd to the length of the rib so it can spread the load.
3) The strut would be placed between the wings and then one long threaded rod can be used to secure the sandwich with a lock nut on either end. Once the strut is placed between the wings and secured, the load bearing would spread accross the saddles of the struts where the wings contact them.
This means you have 2 bolts for each wing and 1 bolt and lock nut for each sattle. taking the total from 12 to 6 which are easier to get to.
And now I have to vent. Just ordered some stuff from Tower Hobbies, twisted servo wire to be specific. I got so I can make nice looking neat wire extensions. But when I got the package 3 out of the 4 twisted wire packages are braided loosely maybe 3 twists per inch and a half as to one they have pictured wich has about 6-8 twists per inch.
To put salt in the wound they said they would happily take it back if I pay to ship it back. This is after i spent millions of dollars there.... well it feels like millions...
What a blankety blank day...
I'll post pics when i make the final mod after thinking about it some more... right now i have braided wires running through my head

Alfred, that's what I was thinking so I don't have to do any additonal construction. The only thing you have to worry about is the hole within the ply ribs working loose so you'd have to glue in a busing similar to the ones used to mount servos.
My other idea is to use something similar to that u-bracket made out of piano wire but having a z bend in the straigh part so you can thread a rubber band through it and wrap it around and catch it by the pins that are sticking out on the other side. Quick, easy, and strong...

RE: Carl Goldberg Ultimate 10-300 Brotherhood.
What about installing some hinges either in the upper or lower part of the wing strut? Or maybe a wire hook instead of hinges.
On the other side, install a canopy latch:

RE: Carl Goldberg Ultimate 10-300 Brotherhood.
Well its been years sinc ei have flown the gd ultimate, I did purchace a seagull ultimate a few months back i know i know its not a goldburg. my question is, since its been so long its hard to compare the two now, does anyone have both or have flown both, it seems to me the goldburg was a better flying bipe. Just wish i could have found a kit before i found this one.

RE: Carl Goldberg Ultimate 10-300 Brotherhood.
I have owned two GB kits( flown at least 12 others) a SG ARF and currently a GB ARF. Neither ARF will fly with the kit builts. Both ARFs are heavier. Of the two ARFs the GB is the better plane.IMHO. Mine is about one pound lighter than the SG I had. That being said the SG was $150 less money, so for the price the SG is not bad. It's a good looking plane and I like the wing attachment better.
Now to find an extra 3K for the AW 50CC Ultimate :-)

Well, I am starting on the recovering/upgrades of my CG Ultimate, however I am in a bit of a standstill. Since I was given the plane built, I do not have the plans. Can anyone supply me with scale pics of the wing ribs the wing struts attach to. I wish to beef them up since I will be stuffing a DLE 20 into her. I do thank you for your help if you are able to help me.
Seriously can't wait to fly this plane.

RE: Carl Goldberg Ultimate 10-300 Brotherhood.
Hello all!
Finally getting mine ready to fly after building it years ago.
Recently moved and seemed to have lost the wire used to attach the top wing on the center cabanes. Anyone have a pic or a pattern of what it looked like so I can make another?
After reading several posts on engine and the rising cost of glow fuel, Im going to pull the YS 120 in mine and replace it witha DLE 20 I rececntly purchased.
Should be fun!
Thanks,
Bill S.

I can take a pic of the wire for you. It's just simple wire with a z bend in it. I will post it sometime today, probally later on this afternoon since it's thanksgiving here in canada. I will measure it as well.
Cheers

Looks like many of you are going towards the DLE 20 engine, the fact is very tentative, how about weight?
I am still using my OS 120 AX and have not added any weight to the tail, battery is in the middle.
I have two servos at rear part for elevators, the rudder servo is in the of the cross section (wing fuse).
I am also concern about the nitro cost so I'd like to evaluate the purchase.

I saved 6 oz, with shared ignition system (Battery) and a 6 oz Tank over the previous setup (YS 120 and O.S.120) and performs same, if not better with 18X8 Mejchlik and Vess 17X6

Dear CG Ultimate Brotherhood:
I would like to apply to this "select" RC builders & flyers group.
If possible I'd like to have number 77.
Here's my proof of purchase, still in its box. I hope I can qualify for this brotherhood with the Ulti still in its kit form!!!!
(I built a GP .40 Ultimate maaaany years ago, if that helps...)
I plan on using the Saito 125 and S9001 & S9202 servos currently on my GP Extra 300S.
Saludos,
Jean Paul
