I'm building my Ultimate but am am still hesitating over the engine choice. I have three good candidates on the shelf. Lucky me, people getting out of glow have enabled me to acquire some fine glow engines for cheap But also have a gas alternative:

1, DLE-20, probably the most practical alternative.
2, Saito fa-182td boxer twin, for me this would be the feel-good alternative 4C-twin in a bipe, me likey but perhaps a little on the heavy side
3, YS-170CDI, yep 4C, nice and reliable with power to spare

Great engine collection, hard to decide from several point of views. Going with the gasser could be a reasonable choice but I would love to fly my ultimate with a saito twin.

I just picked up a brand new Saito FA-125 today.  I know it's not on your shelf, but after 3 months of research it's the motor I ended up with.  Still, a TWIN on this plane would be incredible, and if I had that on my shelf, I'd accept the weight and go with that.

I guess it all in how you fly them. I twin would hurt the performance of mine, but i would sure love the sound.

Yeah, thanks for the repies guys! I've given it some thought and I'm gonna go with the twin. Since I don't compete or do this for a living (too bad [&:]) I only have to focus on what I'd like the best. And I'd sure enjoy that big Saito For performance or extreme 3D flying I've really got other types of birds, mostly profiles built for just such activities. I hope to find some time between Xmas and New Years to build some, if a do I'll bring the camera and upload some pics of the work in progress.

Hello Gang!

Hope all is well...

I have a favor to ask...  Can the members using the DLE 20 in their planes post some picks with their cowls on. I'm wondering how much of the engine sticks out.

I have both the stock cowl (ABS halves) and a fiber glass one from fiberglass specialties (it's version B) which covers more of the muffler but not drasticly low like the version C

thank you in advance!

Happy Holidays and an awsome new year!!!!

You are still #76, my apologizes to both, Sirzepp and boisebiker. My mistake turns to be a great opportunity to wish the very best for you all and that the new year wii bring to all of you the very best.

Peace on earth and happiness to all.

Alfred.

raubold,

that's a lot of motor.....   any way to hide it some more, maybe at 45 degrees mount instead of inverted?

I tried multiple ways, but considering cooling, this is the way to go, the Cowling for Pitts muffler use (avail. after market) would cover a little more, but i'm happy the way it is.

I have a Carl Goldberg Ultimate Bi-Plane 10-300 Balsa Kit that was built by a fellow flyer. I was flying and had a Radio malfunction and I had a mishap into a bean field. I have some damage to the fusealage, but the wing struts were distroyed. Does anyone have the wing detail they could e-mail me? I have a few cracked wing ribs, but these are an easy fix. Iwas hoping for a PDF version. I can print them out to scale at work.
Thanks, Kevin

Thanks, I was able to open all four. I did find the detail for the wing strut in the PDF manual I found on the web.

wow,,, guys the thread has been quiet...   but then again I'm guilty too
been working on my Ultimate ( not the one I built on thisi thread -that still needs covering )

But my original baby finally got a nicely tuned Super Tigre S90K with a perry carb and pump, slimline pitts, TME smoker pump coupled to the Dubro smoker system valve for variable control on the fly, all new servos Hitec 645MG for rudder, elevator, JR 537 (i think, they're BB) for throttle, smoker valve and two in the wings so  I have flaperons and spoilerons... new 2.4 GHZ system and new monokote on wing bottom, and new cowl and pants....  she looks pretty... i'll snap some photos and post them soon

Hope everyone is having a great new year!

Just wanted to relate that I took my Ultimate out yesterday and had a ball flying it. I fly basically pattern style of flight, and the Ultimate is a great plane for that style. With the 120 Surpass and coldish air, it really pulled verticals nicely in the clear blue sky. On one flight my buddy had his Super Stearman (DLE-30) up at the same time, and we were the only ones up, two bipes making low passes together, cuban 8's and loops. We ought to do that more. Been following the thread and enjoying reading what you guys are up to with your Ultimates! Jon

Picked up what I believe is an early CG Ultimate 10-300 Bi-Plane Fuselage for basically the engine that was installed. Now that I have it I am thinking of finshing it but I don't have the wings, cowl or any instructions/plans. Does anyone know where I can get either the plans or maybe even a set of wings? I believe it is an early version since it has the wire landing gear with the fairings installed. The fuse is in great shape and only partially covered. It had an OS 120FS four stroke in it (which is what I really bought it for).

Any help would be appreciated.
