Jesus,
Based on your previous Ultimate experience, do you think the Saito 1.50 will have enough power for the larger model?

Thanks,
Jim

I have a 3 section plastic cowl from a kit that has never been used. I'll trade it to the glass one you have. May also have a used canopy.

Jim I think so.

As I explained previosly my CG 54" ARF Ultimate is a second hand one from a club mate. He originally powered it with a SAITO 125 and it flew beautully with great vertical performance. He sold the model to me as after nearly 2 years intensive flight engine worn out and he needed new piston and cylinder to rebuild it and as they were quite expensive he decided selling the mode to mel.

I have flown the Ultimate for nearly a year with a vintage new OS 120 FS and performance were far from that of the SAITO 125 but it was due OS old engine has nearly a 20% less power than that of the SAITO.

I am quite sure that the larger version will be more than adequately powered by a SAITO 150, although surely not will be able of 3D flying.

Ultimates -in fact most biplanes- have very low wing loading but quite a large drag which is what the engine has to cope with; so with a large diameter and a not so large pitch propeller which is which 4 strokes engines like more you are in a very safe and sure road to success!.

Best Regards,

Hello everyone! May I join the group?

I have a Dave Patrick Ultimate 120 that I just became the second owner of. It powered by a YS DZ140S swinging an APC 17x8 prop. I'm using a Futaba 10J for controls with 8 servos. I touched it up a little and added a cockpit, instrument panel and pilot. Also some other paint work including prop. I plan on totally recovering it next winter with new fiberglass parts (the originals are starting to crack) , rework the landing gear to more resemble the full scale, including tailwheel. I had the first flight the other day and she is a beast! Need to slow down the roll rate, its has to be at least 360' per sec right now! Some expo will help!

Added a Slimline Pitts style smoke muffler and new tail wheel. Straight pipe exhaust was too obnoxious.

Sad to report that I lost the hull recently... Stall spun into terrain. Pilot error. I was recovering too low after a maneuver and did not have enough altitude. I am finding a replacement nearly impossible. Only one close is the Seagull Models Ultimate, which looks to be exactly the same size as the Goldberg. Anyone have one? I have my YS 140 sitting here needing a new airframe

Have three Goldbergs and one Seagull. To me the Goldberg is a much better plane and that is not to say the Seagull is bad. One of my Goldbergs has YS on it the Seagull has a Saito. Good luck with what ever you do.

Watch ebay. Every few weeks or so a kit pops up for sale or scratch build one. plans and patterns can be found...

I scratch built last one. I made templates of the ribs and other parts from my original kit.

MFIGHT43, sorry for the loss. Hope you find a new Ultimate 10-300 which is at the same level than yours Dave Patrick one.

Best Luck!.

Thank you for your kind words. I am concerned about finding one as well. I may have to scratch build it.

MFight43,

I am sorry to hear about your Ultimate! I just maiden mine yesterday and I am pleased how awesome it flew! This is my first CG Ultimate. I look at ebay frequently and I always see a kit on there every month. Hopefully you will find one soon. Here is the video of my maiden flight. I made three flights with it yesterday.

Sorry to jump on with a different airplane but I do have plans, and molds to scratch build the old Circus hobbies Reed Falcon. It's a perfect match for the YS 140 as I have on mine. If interested in a copy of the plans along with a set of glass parts and canopy PM me as to not disturb the thread.

It just so happens I do have one. New in the box. I bought it in 1998 I think. And then in 1999 I got out of the hobby and the boxes of kits just sat with my eight finished and flyable planes and three broken and repairable planes.

I'm am now getting back into the hobby after a 17 year lay-off (darn that is a long time) and I have a few kits that I most likely will never get to. It just so happens that I took a picture of the box two days ago as I was re-arranging my hobby room. Here it is.

Drop me a line if interested. I can take a few more pics if you like.
