RE: Midwest Giant Sweet n Low
Nice thread. I have been flying mine for some time . I do need a higher landing gear. What are you using for yours. I have a 52 gasser and only about 1" prop clearance. Makes for gentle landings.

LOL goirish, I think we have about the same taste in planes.

RE: Midwest Giant Sweet n Low
I have mine with blue and gold. US Marines on the top of the wing and OOH-RAh on the bottom. Grandson is a Marine.

RE: Midwest Giant Sweet n Low
This next one is going to be the traditional red and white with black trim. I'm going to smooth out that transition at the aft fusealage.

Hello Doug
Yes I purchased your midwest sweet n low short kit Cheers Don |
RE: Midwest Giant Sweet n Low
Thought so, I will keep an eye out for any pictures once you start to build it. Did you get your head around how the ribs n stuff fit for the mod they did for the wing tube and a two piece wing?

I got the LG from a fella in a trade, so can't say what it came off of. But it will be tight with a 22" prop, so will go with a 20" to help with this gear. I'll keep digging around to see if I can rustle up something taller from some where.

Really want to put smoke on this, but real estate is going to be tight. Placing EI and twin EI batteries and opti-kill and switching where the fuel tank goes up front and the fuel tank on CG in the fuse. So basically I'm only feeling to be able to do this, have to look at wing tanks for the smoke oil. Best I can do is dual 6oz in the ribs forward of the spar. But looking at this, it is opening a big can of worms to me for filling and drawing of the tanks. Has anyone tried this?

RE: Midwest Giant Sweet n Low
If you have the fuel tank back at the CG then there should be a good size gap for the smoke tank in the fuel compartment.
What size ignition batteries are you running? |
RE: Midwest Giant Sweet n Low
The fuel compartment will house the opti-kill, ignition module, and 2x 4.8v 2000mah batteries and the miracle dual switch with fuel dot. So pretty much filled up that space.

Got the yard work done!! Now to take the 53 twin to the field and get hammering on it to see fuel draw and play the needles. It'll be a fun time out, and then back to the build.

Time to clean off the work bench and get to work on the new SNL Stik.

AW, what V-twin is that in your avatar? Looks sweet (npi). <div>

Got the hardwood rough-in done for the TG and flying wire points. Sanded out and got the ply plate fastened down. Now to move forward a bit and get the rails in place for the power box.

Got the mounting rails for power box done. Looking at rough layout, really is pushing me to get the engine mounted and throttle settled.

Yup, it happened. Cutting in the first switch. template good, fit is awesome!! Stand back to check it out and yup, inverted! Crap! Re structure it up, marked UP on the template and be back at this again

Looking good flynte! I had forgotten what a baseball bat the G-SNL's fuse is. I'm thinking about putting the V-twin on mine but it only puts out 17 pounds of thrust, so I'd need to remove 2 pounds of weight out of the frame. |
RE: Midwest Giant Sweet n Low
Where (what company) did the short kit come? The build looks great. I have an original Midwest kit (small one) that is going on the build table next week
|
RE: Midwest Giant Sweet n Low
If your asking about mine, it is an original kit. Earlier on, it was mentioned that one poster sold a short kit to another. Not sure where that kit originated from.

That was mine from Lazerworks.
