Hi maybe you can add me to the awesome cub list. I have a cmp L4 with a monster 32, I get about 12 min on a 4s 3600 & 12 x 8 prop. It also has the hanger 9 gear. Currently I am building a CMPro 91" cub that i'm trying to squeeze a dle-20 in, should be a great flying plane. http://nalby.smugmug.com/Other/misc/...27-1612-XL.jpg

RE: ***CUB BROTHERHOOD***

Help, having an issue with my Sig 1/5 scale Cub, the flying part. Well, actually not the flying, the landing part. I have a Saito 72 mounted and have gone to a 13/6 prop rather than the 14/6 I started out with. The 14/6 had way too much torque for the Cub. Even though I tend to build "heavy" and the all-up weight of the plane is about 8 1/2 pounds, the 14/6 was still too much. Here's the issue. On the first flight, even though the landing was pretty smooth, just before the Cub came to a complete stop, the tail lifted off the ground and flipped forward over the wing. With the way that Sig has the wings attached to the fuselage what ended up happening is that the screws holding the wings in place ended up ripping the sides of the fuselage away from the plane. I fixed it up, added some triangle reinforcements. Very next flight, same exact thing, same damage. Here's what I'm in the process of doing to try to repair the damage as well as fixing the "flip on landing" issue. I've gone to a smaller/lower tailwheel assembly than the one supplied by Sig. Seemed to me that the tail was too high off the ground. I'm installing 4" wheels, rather than the 3 1/4" wheels that I started off with. And lastly, I'm going to figure out a way to have the wing tube/dowel run completly through the fuselage, rather than the setup that Sig has in the build. I'm thinking that with the wing tube/dowel this way there would be much more support for the wing in the event that the plane does still have a tendency to flip over on landing. Also, I had a Carl Goldberg Anniversary that I built back in the 1980's and flew for many, many years, never with this issue. Suggestions, thoughts?

RE: ***CUB BROTHERHOOD***

Homer, Did you mount the main landing gear in the right position? Sounds like it might be a tad too far rearward. The bigger wheels should help too.

RE: ***CUB BROTHERHOOD***

Just returned from the Cub's and Classics over Bluegrass at the Lexington Modelers Club. They have a very nice facility and Cubman put on a nice event. I was able to get 4 good flights in on my 1/3 Cub. I also won a couple nice pilot prizes during the drawing.

It was nice meeting Cubman and the other pilots at the event and I am sure I will be joining them for future events.

Unfortunately I forgot to take my camera, I am sure Cubman will post a few pics.
Later!!
Anthony

May someone here be able to help me out with this? I have done everything that I knew to cut and shape the front shield but everything I tried just did not work out that well I have used a poster board to make templates put still not working to well. The template looks good but when out on the plastic shield, just don’t look right
This is my cub almost done. Maybe I could be added to the list this is a ¼ scale sig , all futaba servos and electrical, OS four stroke 100, robot gear.

RE: ***CUB BROTHERHOOD***

Homer712 can you give us a photo or two of your cub. I would like to see one looking straight at the side of the plane. I agree sounds like your gear may be a little back. Also as soon as you land, start applying some elevator to it to help hold the tail to the ground.

Thanks Waconut, it was a great day…… well great day for the weather we had during the morning hours. I will try to get some photos up on my site in the next few days.

FCF do you have the template from the plans? Can you give us a photo of what is not looking good on the window?

Cub Man, thanks for the response. I've attached a photo of the Cub. It now has the replacements 4" wheels rather than the 3 1/4" I started with. Also, the tail wheel is at least a full 1/2" lower than the original that came with the kit. I decided against trying to run one wing tube for both wings completly through the fuselage. Presented more problems than it solved. If I can just get the Cub to not nose over on landing (never happened on take off) the wing mounting will no longer be an issue. Of course, once I started posting pictures (forgive me, I know this is a "Cub" thread) I got carried away, sorry.

looks like your landing gear is correct. How tall is the grass on the runway? Try adding the elevator as you start slowing down on your landing.

I am an old guy, finally retired, who has built aircraft models for 60 years. I bought an Anniversary Kit #63 in 1985, built the fuselage, the wing, the stab and the elevator. Covered the wing and empennage, went back to engineering and teaching and consulting for many years. Now am dedicated to completing and flying it.
I want to join your Cub Brotherhood, please. The Cub Tri-Pacer was the first plane I took lessons in, 1969. Flew full-scale until Beta Blocker intervened. It's going to take me a while to read all of your posts. I'd like to hear from folks who have learned better methods than those in the #63 instructions.
Bob Parker

Welcome Pete and soon to be Bob.
Bob. If you read this thread you will find there is more info than what your, probably, looking for. Chances are you won't make it thru the whole thing and remember half of what was read. Either way take note's as you read of thing's you like. We are here for ya as well. Most important is, enjoy the club.
