Mine, unfortunately weighs in at 25 lbs. I can't remember the last time I built a plane that was this tail heavy? The finished weight was 20 lbs. then my friend came over with his balance scales. I had to install 5 lbs in the nose!! Try to find a place to install 5 lbs....just about impossible! The plane flys great and impressive in flight. The weights however, tend to add to engine vibration and reeks Havoc on the plane's detail. Good Luck, hope it works out better for you.

That’s 15.45 sq ft. Say the weight is 25 lbs flying. That’s 400 ounces. Wing loading is 25.9 oz/sq ft. computed stall speed should be 19mph. You generally want a static pitch speed of 2.5 to 3 times times stall speed, so 47.5
To 57mph should be the target range. Calculating 6000 rpms with a 22X8 (to approximate the 22X6X10) results in 394 ounces static thrust, 45.4mph pitch speed. Thrust good for what you want with that plane, pitch speed close but a touch under. If it will handle a 22X10 you should be right in the perfect range both thrust and speed. As long as it will stay at or above 5600 rpms. If not, I’d sacrifice some static thrust for a bit more pitch speed which would allow you to throttle back a lot more in flight. That would mean something like a 20 or 21 inch prop with 10~12 pitch.

I had to add 2 lbs of lead to balance. It is important to think light in the tail when building these planes. Many times the tail skid etc. is the culprit. What engines are you guys using, as 25lb is a little high. Mine started with a G38, but was very anemic, so I installed a DLE 55 and it is a much better plane now. The large prop really helps on landings.

How are you finding that NGH?

I've only had it running once but it did ok. At first it was running rough and then I saw I had some loose bolts so I shut it down, tightened everything, and restarted the engine. It was now smooth as silk. It transitioned well and sounded great. This is a well built quality engine and well worth the price. It doesn't have a muffler but it only needs the pipe it comes with. I put on a Higley nut to dress it up and for using my starter. I guess in time I won't need the starter. It's done with break in at 25 to 1 so I'll now run it at 32 to 1 and get it into the air ASAP. It looks like a big OS with a blue head and should perform well on a 1/4 scale WWI plane.

I've interviewed you many times in Toledo doing the "latest greatest Aquacraft boats". I didn't realize you were such a skilled scale plane guy as well. You have earned a new level of respect in my book my friend. Missed seeing you in Toledo this year. Carol said you were off in Wisconsin doing some boat race or something like that. Hopefully we'll get to say "hi" next year in Toledo.

Just got down from the mountains and found this news, I'll second Verticals comment Friggin awesome!!

Pretty much any Fokker offering they come up with in 1/6th scale I will buy immediately. My personal choice would be a DVI.

Pfalz D-III or IIIa pretty please! Any German 'two holer' would be cool. I'm partial to the Aviatik C1.

no promises on dates or models, but there is a possibility that a 1/6 scale D.VIII is on my bench right now with a 1/6 scale DR.I to follow shortly after...

Well, a DR1 and a DVIII are so close to a DVI, that I may just get the kit, and scratch the wings for a DVI. I will have one, one way or another eventually.

Maybe even better yet, BUSA could come out with a Fokker DVI in 1/4 scale! That would really make me happy.

Bugger, I already scratched a D8 in that size (not very well though) DR.I might go on my list.

Hey Chad why don't you start a poll thread asking what would be the favourite 1/6 plane the customers would like?

I personally would like a D7 and Albatross, you just can't please everyone though.

I have to assume that the more complicated models, like the Albatros and the Pfalz are less likely. It would seem an Albatros in 1/4 scale should come first, as I know that would be a good seller. The Fokker's are easy as they are more straightforward designs and less complicated. Not to mention, just blowing them down in scale from the larger offerings is doable.
