I am still getting accustom to this new way of posting. We had our Okie Dawn Patrol and it was very hot and very little wind. We did fly several rounds. We have only a few pictures, I guess everyone thought someone else was taking pictures. We had another good turn out, looking forward to next year. Bill Holland's 1/2 scale Fokker DR-1 tri-plane and Manfred at the controls was a show stopper. Thanks Bill, Sharon for bring it. Here are the I have to post.

R/C Art 07-16-2017 10:27 AM

You're doing fine Rich. Thanks for posting the Okie Dawn Patrol photos ....... and thanks for maintaining this thread. It is fun, informative and keeps me in touch with a lot of folks that I don't get to see very often - and you are very much at the top of that list!

Kudos my friend.

I would like a number. I made a trade for a 1/4 scale Balsa USA Sopwith Pup, that I have just about ready to fly. Will be doing the remaiden in the next few days. I'll take some pictures before flight, in case something goes wrong, and will post them. This will be my first 1/4 scale plane to fly and my first Balsa USA plane. Have the camper loaded for IRCHA in the morning will be post when I get back. That is where I plan to do the first flights with it. I also have a 1/4 scale cub the guy I got it from said it is a Balsa USA kit. I have no idea if that is true or not. but it is a nice looking cub. Will have it ready not long after I get back from Muncie.

Jimmy

TomCrump 08-03-2017 04:10 AM

Good luck with the maiden of your Sopwith, Jimmy.

jwrich 08-03-2017 05:52 AM

Hi Jimmy, I have assigned you number 144, Welcome to the brotherhood. My Sopwith Pup is a great flyer, it is at least 9 years old. You will love the way it flys. Good luck on the maiden flight, should not be a problem. We are looking forward to the pictures of your Pup and the Cub. If you have any questions, just ask, you now belong to a group of knowledgeable guys who are ready to help. Again Welcome the Balsa USA Brotherhood.

Thanks !

That'a a G-38 under the hood. It has magneto ignition. A rear carb, rear exhaust, engine would be an easier to mount choice.

Just an FYI, but the list that you keep posting only goes to #99. I believe we had that problem a short while ago, too. I know that I am in the 'hundreds' myself.

Just my $.02

Bob

Bob, this has happened before. On my PC I show all 145 names. Has anyone else have this problem? Maybe we can find the root of the problem.

Thanks

I have an O.S. FT160 twin that needs an air frame. The 1/4 scale cub is the first thing that comes to mind but I was also thinking about 1/4 scale WW1 planes. Would this engine work in one of those or is the cub the best chose? I have not been able to find where someone has put this engine in a WW1 plane. What do you guys think?

FlyerInOKC 08-16-2017 12:48 PM

I don't think they had a flat opposed cylinder engine in an airplane back then.

spaceworm 08-16-2017 01:26 PM

Flat opposed AC engines

[QUOTE=FlyerInOKC;12360660]I don't think they had a flat opposed cylinder engine in an airplane back then.[/QUOTE.
What, no kitplanes with BMW bike.engines in them?

jwrich 08-16-2017 02:52 PM

If this engine is big enough to haul around a 1/4 scale Cub, the it should for the smaller 1/4 scale BUSA WW I birds.

Rich

smkrcflyer 08-16-2017 04:23 PM

The cub is 12 to 14 lbs and uses a .90 to 1.20 4 stroke. I like the camel but its 15 to 18 lbs and uses 1.2 to 1.5 4 stroke. The Nieuport 17 might work better its 12 to 14 lbs same as the cub.

I was thinking more along the lines of the BUSA Sopwith Pup. I have one that is almost 9 years old and still flyin' great and it still looks good.

Lance, I wish I had known you were at Owatonna. I was there too, what a great event, I enjoyed every minute. What were you flying, maybe I can remember you?

Rich
