Super Covertex
Hello
Can someone please tell me if they know of a product called Super Covertex fabric covering. Who makes it and where can I buy some more rolls. Thanks Dutchy50 |
I've used Super Coverite and I've used Solartex, but I haven't heard of Super Covertex.
This may prove to be a learning experience. :) |
I don't believe Super Coverite is available any longer. I covered one of my birds with it back in '98, and I think the material went off the market not long after. My fuzzy memory tells me it was a chemical formulation change required by the EPA that ended the product.
Between the two, I much prefer Solartex. Bedford |
Super Coverite was an iron-on non-woven fabric that required at least a clear coat. The current fabric product is 21st Century Fabric:

Super Coverite was a fabric covering favored by many scale RCers. It was a bit heavy but applied fairly easily with quite permanent results. Apply paint of choice and go fly. Later in it's history, the formula of the adhesive changed and then it would hardly stick to itself where with the early formula, you couldn't pry the seams apart. Shortly after, the product went away.
I have planes in my inventory covered with both vintages of the covering. The early covering still looks quite good where the later product is pretty much just falling off hanging in the garage. I have no idea how the newer product that BAX referenced works. These days I use Solartex. |

It is a pre-painted covering, but will accept paint, for trim purposes. I covered this Monocoupe with it, 15+ years ago. It still looks good ! |
