Does anyone make a P-38 kit?? I haven't been able to find any. Any help would be appreciated.

go to product guide and put in p-38.... There are other full builds on there...What you didn't say is what you want - Wing span, level of detail, fiberglass or all wood, price....

In the p-38 you have a very WIDE range of kits...

Great Planes makes a profile kit. Any of the kit cutters can do up a Ziroli kit. The GP is a 40 size, the Ziroli uses 2 gas burners. Mace Gill of the Aeroplane works posts here, He has a good reputation. There are several others but he comes to mind as does Jesse at Lazer Lizard. I do not know about the Yellow kit. Seems it took 2 big glow engines, I am not sure. Try wing manufacuring, I think they had a kit. They are back in production. Maratuka (the old Royal kits) is available that is a 2-60 size kit. These are the only ones that come to mind. I think there are some plans out there. Good luck with your choice.

Royal used to import a good P-38 kit. It was made by Maratuki in Japan, and I believe that Hobby Barn in Tucson now carry that line. Give them a call and ask. Flies well on good 40s or even light 60s. HB phone is 1-800-324-4910, or for info only, 520-747-3792.

The Marutaka(Royal) kit is no longer available, seems Marutaka quit producing it. Just got an email back today from Hobby Barn with this info.

I think the ATI-Aerotech is the only pure wood kit left in a smaller size available unfortunately.

I do have some plans for a .15 size kit I bought from RCM, and I think there are some other plans available if you want to scratch build or have a lazer kit cut, but most of them are the bigger sizes, above 100 inch wingspan.

There is lots of info about most of these kits that are still available, just as Twinman in the Twin and Multi forum he's a P38 expert, or do a search.

Does anyone build the ATI kit ? Is it a good kit ?
In fact, I know Marutaka kits and Top-Flite kits. Are there similar ?

But, I'm afraid of losing one of the engines during a fly.
I read that P38 spin one second after an engine stop ! And then crash ! [sm=drowning.gif]
Does a Gyro stabilize that in real time ? :D
Is it possible to fly with only one engine ?

Does anybody tried an electrical P38 around this size ? With which motors and accus ?

The Maratuka (Royal) kit is the one you want. I saw one fly with 2 61's in it. It flew real well. It is a builder's kit from what I was told. But all of the Maratuka's are that way. Try one I believe you will like it IMHO.

I know the Marutaka kit (I see an advertisement).

According hobbybarn, P38 is no longer in production.
According the french distributor of Marutaka (PB Modelisme), the Marutaka' dates list of avaiability of their kit is more and more empty.
It is no more in the swiss marutaka distributor : http://www.speedmodels.com

So where to find it ?

I found a plan in a french magazine (MRA) of a 1.88 m . But I would prefer a kit, smaller and not an ARF.

I have a partially built Marutaka kit with aftermarket fiberglass cowlings. Approximately 1/3rd built. You do the rest. I'll let this thing go at a very reasonable price. I'm not going to ship as it is too much wing. I'm in southern Michigan. Any interest??

Or if you don't mind scratch building your own, I just got a set of plans Col. Art Johnson made for a P-38, 94 inch wingspan, .60 engine range I believe, from Ebay. There was just a set of Royal(Marutaka) P-38 plans for sale that ended yesterday or today. Search Ebay every few days for P-38 and P38, occasionally the Royal and Marutaka kits show up, that is where I got my very old Royal P-38 from 3 years ago. One of these days I'll get to finish it :D

There are quite a few places that will Laser cut a kit from plans. Just use a search engine and search for "Kit cutters".

If you wish, I have an original extra set of Royal(Marutaka) P-38 plans I can sell and send to you, however I am away on business right now and it will be another month at least until I can get them out of storage.

I'm not interested because I want to build it at 100% and if its partialy built, the cost of shipping from US to Europe will not be reasonable because of the size of the box....

The Marutaka kit is 99% wood. No plastic except for the canopy. Lots of carving and building. I have 2 of these kits, just haven't gotten around to building them yet, to many other projects.

I have seen a finished ATI kit, although not the P38, but it looked to be a pretty good quality kit and the guy told me it went together quite easily.
The ATI is twin 40 2 stroke which is in your ballpark and shipping from the UK to France should not be too bad, to be honest in the future when i get current building projects out the way i will be looking at one of these too, but i will be aiming to use two OS70 four strokes in it, not to sure about the spin problems on these if one engine fails.

I've just asked ATI more info;

To people who already build a P38. What happens when one of the engine stops ?
Do a gyro needed ? Does engines must be build not parallel but like that \ / (I don't know the english word, sorry).

Anyone try to use electricals engine for a 74' at least p38 ? If so, what are them ? What battery is used ?

Well for the electric, you could go with a Hacker Brushless setup.... But that's no fun - a silent warbird? You may want to search for anything written here by TWINMAN... he's the local p-38 guru.... gyros are rudder would make your flying much more manageable... Taking time to break in the engines perfectly is the best first move... Being proficient at using rudder to fly an a/c is the other.

"OUT thrust" \ / - having the engines pointed away slighty to help prevent a death spiral is a bit of debate. Some have said any is good... Others have told me that a few degrees is useless, and enough to make it functional is just an eye-sore cause it becomes horribly noticeable.

If both engines are running you don't need any. But again, ask Twinman... he has had more p-38's than anyone on here... ( i think 4-5 a/c so far???)

I have a friend that just informed me that he has a Royal P-38 Kit still in the box. Specs say 2-.35 to .61 engines 74 1/2" wingspan and 50 3/4" fuselage.
