GP RV-4 Tail wheel

On the tail wheel assembly the rod that goes into the rudder has moved around and come loose, anyone know what to do?

Well seeing as once you hinge the rudder, wait to cover it and then CA it in the hole? I dunno im far from an expert but thats my guess

I'll assume that the plane is complete, and has flown..

Typically, this metal rod is glued into the rudder when the rudder is finally glued in place. This should be done with epoxy, not CA. And, after a few hard / rough landings, the wood will break, the rudder will break. If this is teh case, glue it back in place. You'll probably have to do some surgery though: remove some covering, scrape off some glue, fill in / rebuild a part of teh structure, etc.. and then seal, sand, and re-cover the area. You can go one further, and add some glass cloth over teh area, to add soem more strength. Not just a pach on one side, but a stripe wrapped around the LE of teh rudder, and equally applied to both sides of teh rudder.

Is it loose or broken? Assuming the plane is in flying condition if it is only loose don't worry about it. If it's broken you'll need to glue everything back together. If you keep having the problem then you will probably need to go with a more sturdy tailwheel bracket assembly.

i didn't even use the tail wheel bracket whatever you want to call it thingy that came with it. i bought one of those bracket things that drop down off the back/bottom of the fuse with the springs that connect to the rudder and seems to be great with mine. i haven't actually flow it, but had some mad high speed taxi bumps and bounces, and it hasn't come loose or even budged yet. may think about that if you would rather not do all the surgery. towerhobbies has them pretty cheap and in a variety of sizes. i like it alot. the tail i think sits up a little higher also.[sm=devious.gif]
