Great Planes Giles 202 .46 Build

I spent 3 months on building this kit, a slow process which allows me time to think of ways to strengthen the plane, do some research to modify the planes etc. In the process, I did some extra work, and would like to share with you all. Let's hear your comments.

First the front deck. No ammonia is used, just steam. I can't find any ammonia (ran out of ideas, after some thought and desperation to finish the project) I "invented" this method of using steam. The process is fairly simple, odor-free way of bending balsa effectively. It's very effective.

The wing joint is reinforced with a one-inch wide strip of fiberglass cloth from Hobbico.

The cowl is stock and not a fiberglass cowl. The joint of the cowl are carefully trued with sandpaper, and glue with thin CA. After that, a one-inch strip of cowl plastic material is layed over the joint to strengthen the cowl. Before the strip (1) is layed and glue with CA, the area is pecked with "thousands of pin-holes" with a pin (2) to ensure that the CA has a good grip on the strip. This extra work is all worth it.
