If you have a nice covering job on one of your airplanes, post it on with some info about the covering and why it is unique. Also if you have a sig somthin Extra post the covering job here. This post it to help give first timer's an idea on there covering scheme or how to go about covering there airplanes.

Here's mine. Ultra cote Pearl Green, Pearl White, and Pearl Black Trim. And it's a Something Extra as well. I wasn't too original on my design, but after all, it was my first covering job.

Was a Blue an White Cermark Pitts S2B.. I was ironing some shipping wrinkles out around the tail surface when a large piece shrunk and pulled away from the vertical fin... Really was not crazy about the Blue scheme anyways.... Covered it in Ultracoat black and Checkerboard and did the cowl and wheel paints and gear in PPG DBC ...O.S.1.6 for power with a modded Bisson pitts muffler.. Radio install is next on the list...

As you can see I think "DMehalko(DM)" scheme was great so I "borrowed" most of it. So I take NO credit for it but it does show how good a job I think "DMehalko(DM)" did with his.

Thanks again DMehalko(DM). Dave

Here are a couple of mine. They are all covered with Monokote. One is a Great Planes RV-4 (flag), one is a Great Planes Super Decathalon (starbursts) and one is a scratch-built Corbin Baby Ace D (grey). I used traditional methods for trimming including heat application and trim solvent.

Don't have anything to post, but would highly suggest that Puckett Aviation get some shots in here. I've never seen anything like the work they do....

Do a search for "Carven" to see a Carden Edge in the Raven Scheme.
Or, look at the H-9 Extra 330L. I think they came up with that scheme when McConville worked at Midwest.

Theres my wingless LT-40, so original. And my 4 star thats in production. Havent decided whether or not to add another thick stripe under the 1/8 inch stripe. I think the small stripe will get lost at distance. What do yall think?

RE: Good covering jobs!

See my avatar for my S.E.. All of the stripes were joined with a 1/4" overlap before being applied to the wing.

i got this scheme from acecombat ps2 video game.
it was easier to achieve than trying to get a straight line scheme.
the purple flame high-lites were the most time consuming.
i sealed with sealant or ca to prevent film lifting during flight.

i usually cover the fins first leaving the to be glued area uncover.
it looks cleaner and i won't have problems with trying to trim off
the excess film later. don't want to run the knife
across wood. even slight cuts will cause structure failures.

I usually use clear automotive paint to seal the edges of my covering jobs. It's very easy to use as well as clean up. Because you apply it with a brush, you never have to worry about it running and trying to wipe it up before it dries. It's glossy and totally fuel proof.

Here's the first kit I ever built back in 1986. I don't even remember what kit it was. I still have and use the OS .40FP that was in it.

Nice job and plane looks like a goldberg Falcon.

Falcon, that does seem familiar. Unfortunately the plane didn't last long. I was stationed in England and didn't have an instructor to go over the plane. Turns out I had the alierons reversed lol.

Thanks for the kind words Brian,
Here are a few pics of our planes. We did not come up with the scheme for the H-9 Extra, that was Mike McConville's, we just put it on the plane from the drawings and pictures of the "Extra Experience" full scale.

Here's my very much posted Midwest Extra300. Monokote covering, all hand-cut. Found a site that had excellent pics of this particular plane, and just couldn't find, nor think of one I like better. The layering was what made this plane possible in this scheme, as the wing, and fusalage do have open framework, and the original plane was built a bit different I believe. With some planning, alot of new X-acto blades, my t-square, piece of glass, pics from magazines/internet here it is:
