RE: Sig 1/4scale C/W Cub build

You know, maybe it's the hot dry air of our summers that make the O-rings crack and break easily.  A friend of mine suggested using yellow O-rings from the "Cat" store (the kind with the tracks and diesel engine that is).  I might look into that.

The shock cord I purchased from REI (at 25 cents a foot) worked well on the Camel, now to see how long it lasts being stretched out all the time.  I put O-rings on the Cub, didn't have any weight on the wheels and they lasted maybe a month before just falling off.  I would literally be changing them out every visit to the field I bet.

Neddy, I'll be interested to see what you come up with.  Don't slow down too much, you may end up like me!  [X(]

Take care,
David

Stan7476,

That's a pretty good idea you got there about the D-Sub connectors on the wing.  Where did you get the idea?  Got to say it sounds familiar... just can't place it...

HA!  :)  I know, Robert, my friend, and I hatched that little scheme to see what would happen.

Let me know how it works for you.  I've got my connectors but realized I should get some new servo wire, the stuff I have has alread been spliced once at the servo, got rid of the connector.  I'll still try to mount it, but it takes me quite a while before I can fully invision how I want to do it.

P.S.  It was actually Robert's idea.  :D

I have no idea of what your talking about CFF.
I know what Stan has done. We PM'ed over the wing tube.
Californian's!

OK guys, did I pass that test?  LOL.,   I hate tests, don't know how I ever made it thru school.

Build a door
I've thought of building a window door/hatch on the top of the center section but it wouldn't help. The center section per the plans use the full length wing ribs which would block good access to the top fuse sides where the bolts would need to go. I think some stick structure to build a roof to the center section would be the best bet. I've build in the right sided door scale so I should have access to get up to where the bolts will go.

I'm planning on ordering some bulk O-rings for the Robart gear from McMaster-Carr. I need to measure the o-rings to know which ones to order.

RE: Sig 1/4scale C/W Cub build

Neddy, I am with you as I am thinking I can reach the bolts from the open door/window.  As I said before I am thinking of one bolt on each side, either 10-24 or 1/4 -20.

I am sheeting the interior right now, thanks to Waconuts posts.  I have to finish the LH wing panel and then I can test my wing mounting ideas.  Not sure when that will happen.  As I mentioned earlier I have a 1000 sq ft of flooring coming, so I will be  busy for a week or too on that.

I still have to do a maiden flight on my scratch built Sopwith Baby as I finally got the Quadra running after rebuilding the Walbro carb.

I bolt my wing thru the door's. I used 1/4-20 thumb screw's.</p>

I like the idea of the larger 1/4-20 screws vs the hobby sized ones I was thinking about. I guess I'll be heading to my local Ace hardware since they seem to have all the odd hardware parts like that.

Fixing to get started on my wings and wanting to do the same guys. Will be paying close att. to this.

I just picked up some 1/4-20 Thumb Screws and some 1/4 -20 T-nuts at my local Home Depot. If Ican get organized, Iwill get some pics up.
P.S. The thumb screws are in the specialty hardware drawers and the T-Nuts are bagged in the orange bags on the racks nearby.

Stan did you find the Thumbscrews with the stop or are ya going to have to solder a washer on to it?

Robert, They have a stop on them. If you want Ican take a photo and paste it.

That's not needed. Mine did and was just wondering.

Started back working on the cub, and need to know if I am doing the clipped wing version am I supposed to remove two ribs at the fuselage side and start at the third rib over?

Stan7476 11-02-2012 05:20 AM

RE: Sig 1/4scale C/W Cub build

I am thinking it is deleting 2 ribs, but hopefully one of the experts will chime in here. Ihave only built the CW kits.

Waco , Vincent, or anyone that has built the sig 1/4 cub as a clipped wing. I could not find information as to where to are how much to take off each wing. Waiting on response before going on. Any help will be appreciated.

VincentJ 11-02-2012 07:39 AM

RE: Sig 1/4scale C/W Cub build

Don't know if I can help you. You have the unclipped version and wish to clip the wing? Mine came as the clipped wing so I don't know which ribs should be omitted. I could photo the wing plan and post if that would help. I would suggest calling Sig up and asking them, they could tell you definitively.

Thanks for the info. I went ahead and removed two inner ribs. That will be about the same span as the cw version. I'll post pictures soon.
Thanks Don

Typical, you always seem to stumble across these threads when you've almost finished your build. Never mind, I'm signed in now and reading all the good info on things I could have done.:D

Been building the right wing section and a bit slower than some. Which engine that I have would be better suited for this plane. DLE 20 GAS OR 1.20 OS FS with a pump?

Stan7476 11-04-2012 02:03 PM

RE: Sig 1/4scale C/W Cub build

DLE 20 is too small, the 30 is better or the OS 120 if you already have it.
