Position of the ailerons at rest

Where do you line the ailerons at when you set them. Do you line the ailerons in line with the upper wing, lower wing or somewhere in the middle. I have a 4 star 40 and a Hobbico Nexstar. I'm sure it really doesn't matter, but I would like to know for future builds.

Thanks

RE: Position of the ailerons at rest

To center them I place a ruler on the bottom of the wing. leading edge to trailing edge, and have the ailerons rest on it. Turn on the transmitter then the receiver and adjust the server connections so that it stays at this position for center.

Refer to the plane manual for setting the limits of travel. One of the problems I had with my NexStar when I first got it was that the elevator limits were almost at their fullest. That made it extremely manuever (for a trainer) and was almost too much for me when I was training.

Hi jollycub,

With a flat bottom wing the advice from rwright142 is correct. With a symmetrical wing the centre of the wing chord aligns with the centre of the aileron.

Hopefully Minn will add his excellent illustrations in place of "a thousand words".:D

Cheers,

Colin

Yeah. With semi-symetrical or full sym. the centerline of the aileron would be in line with the mean average centerline of the chord or some technobabble along those lines. In any case the aileron would be a continuation of the symmetry of the main wing, whatever it may be.

Here ya go.

The aileron should follow the contour of the wing as best it can on top and bottom

For your 4*, read page 15 of the instructions under "Pre-flight checkout". It explains how to set the ailerons.

Thanks to all of you for your help. Unfortunatly, my 4 star is used and I don't have a book. Ya'll given good advice.

Thanks again.
