You got it Bob. That looks sweet! I was getting back into the hobby after a several-year hiatus, and I think you were the one that suggested the US as a transition ship for getting back into the higher performance old-style pattern planes. I've flown the wings off the US, and have been flying the old piped ballistic pattern birds comfortably for some time now, but I keep going back to the US as my go-to plane. Now have a couple of 60-size on the shelf, just in case they go away again. Thanks, |
RE: *** Ultra Sport Brotherhood ***
Bubba,
That is an Awesome looking plane, Love the covering/trim scheme.. I myself haven't used any transparent films.. Not because of my lack of workmanship, but more because after I finishing my covering job I would notice a small mistake somewhere, and it would bug me to no end, even though no one else would probably even notice.. I am my worst critic. :) Great looking plane You got there!! :) Craig. |

RE: *** Ultra Sport Brotherhood ***
The big brown truck just arrived with the the big box, I will be starting to build as soon as possible, can I claim the # 63 ? , even that it is still in its box?
The real thing is that I am very anxious to start the build, a friend of mine has his own with a YS 91 and I have two Saitos 1.00 and one .91 size, what do you guys think of? Alfred. |
RE: *** Ultra Sport Brotherhood ***
If you start the build with a plan to move elev/rud/throttle servos aft and also a plan to move the battery aft, you should be able to use one of those engines without any lead balance weight. One thing to consider. The US has a narrowed nose. I'd place the engine(s) over the plans and see how they match up with the lines for your cowl.

RE: *** Ultra Sport Brotherhood ***
Alfred,
If I ever get around to building my US60, I'm going to make one minor change. I am going to mount my motor inverted (straight down). I too have a YS91 for mine so fuel tank location will not be an issue. Besides, it will help with the lateral balance of the plane. You may want to mount your Saito's upright. That way you can help the lateral balance on your plane too. BTW, If I were you, I'd put the Saito 1.00 in your plane. That way you'd have a better chance of keeping up with your friends YS ....:D David |

Then I bought a Kaos which is the one that I am using for practicing, I really like it, but my wish was the Ultra Sport because its bigger and I can do the maneuvers a little bit far (from me and judges), which in my thoughts makes the maneuvers look better. Best wishes to all brotherhood. Alfred. |
RE: *** Ultra Sport Brotherhood ***
Well, I was going to wait on ordering my winter project, but after reading a few posts in sport flying I had to order my US 60 kit. I fly the heck out of the 40 size I got early this spring. So when they stop having them available, I got one to build.</p> |
RE: *** Ultra Sport Brotherhood ***
Mounting an engine upright in an Ultra Sport would be unforgivable! [X(]
My prefered method is to mount it sideways, sure you'll have to add some lead to a wingtip to counter balance it, but it won't take much (I know from experience). I try to avoid inverted mounts only because if you have a nose-over on pavement, your engine will take the lion's share of the scraping |

[X(] I thought the only "unforgivable" way to build a US60 is building it without retracts......:):):D:D:D Alfred, If you like flying your Kaos, you're going to LOVE your Ultrasport. I had a Tower ARF with a YS63 in it flew AWESOME. I absolutely loved flying the plane until I lost the link between my brain and my fingers one day while I was flying it.....[:@][:'(] Good luck with your US building and keep us posted.:D |
RE: *** Ultra Sport Brotherhood ***
Put me on the list.
US-40, being restored US-1000, NIB kit Never flown one, but after reading all the positive comments, I'm looking forward to it! |
RE: *** Ultra Sport Brotherhood ***
Inverted is ok, just not MY choice - UPRIGHT however, is unforgivable! :D
OK Fenton, you're #64 |
RE: *** Ultra Sport Brotherhood ***
Would an MVVS 40 on a pipe provide ample thrust for a US40?
She spins a 10x7 APC @12k plus. |
RE: *** Ultra Sport Brotherhood ***
That should work

I would also buy a 60 kaos if Great Planes would decide to run it as a kit. I am also thinking on a low profile 60 to 90 size 2 stroke engine for this new Ultra Sport. BTW, there is a question that I have about the lateral balancing of the planes: I have used all the time an string that is attached from the engine's shaft to the tail wheel, the I grab the nylon string and check for lateral balance (plane assembled). My question is regarding the right thrust that all planes have, how do you guys check the lateral balance? Alfred. |
RE: *** Ultra Sport Brotherhood ***
I just hold by the spinner and lift at the tail (sometimes resting the spinner on something or having two people involved, but the string method is just as good)
As for the engine offset, I don't even worry about it. Nothing in life should be that critical :D |
RE: *** Ultra Sport Brotherhood ***
Yes, that is what I have been thinking all this years, but I always had the bug about those 2 degrees or so, then, it is not an exact leveling, but as I said, I wanted to know other opinions and yes we can live with that.
Thanks MinnFlyer. |
