I'm in also... in memory only though!
I lost my beloved .40 size US many years ago. She was inverted on the deck when the engine quit and I just couldn't save her. |

RE: *** Ultra Sport Brotherhood ***
I think I'm on my 7th Ultra Sport. I do like the 60 better but this one is ready for it's maiden Friday! It's red, powered by Super Tigre .45.
My US60 kit (thanks for bringing them back, very hard to find on the auction sites these days) will be a build this August, when it's too hot to fly in the south. |

Um, what is the difference in flying between an Ultra Sport, and a Super Sportster?
Almost the same plane, other than cockpit forward, servo in each wing, and different elevator/rudder trailing edge. Club Saito, Club Ultra Sport on RCU forums <sigh> ... time to look for OS, Nexstar or Super Sportster!! :P (Just keepin' it fun, no pun intended) I know!! Can I be an honorary member for let say um.... "crossover\wannabe", "Fooled ya", or "Spent his money to soon" catagory? |

Glad to hear your feedback and comparisons about these 2 planes.
Now I know how to improve my flying, what to watch for, and a big excuse for the wife on why I need a 2.4ghz system. I have only the barebones nextstar Futaba 4 ch. controller. If I am going to spend more than 100 bucks for a controller, I am going to make a jump to 2.4, rather than fool around with other types of 72mhz systems. [sm=thumbup.gif][sm=teeth_smile.gif] |

I loved my OS46SF powered Ultrasport 40. It was in the taildragger configuration with retracts and I'd added flaps and two aileron servos in the wings that let me dial in crow mix. You could pretty much hover it in a mild breeze. The Ultrasport is a fantastic plane that can do almost anything. I did one flight where I started an aileron roll just after takeoff and didn't stop rolling until being on final approach to land. I finally sold it after years and hundreds of flights when I got into jets.

I'm in !!! I have a pair of US 40's and a kit for a US 1000 that will be a twin

RE: *** Ultra Sport Brotherhood ***
ORIGINAL: cpeisher I would really love to be a member. I see that quite a few of you have extra kits laying around that haven't been built yet. Would anyone consider selling one of the 40 or 60 kits? http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXJ584&P=0 |
RE: *** Ultra Sport Brotherhood ***
Hi Minnflyer,
You beat me to it about the 60s still being available and they are also cheaper than they were when they first came out (I paid 139.00 for the first one I bought). I jumped on buying two more when Tower Hobbies had them for only $99. It seems that they have discontinued the 40s though. Maybe they will eventually re-kit the 1000 (fingers crossed). |
RE: *** Ultra Sport Brotherhood ***
If memory serves me correctly, doesn't the wing on the Ultra Sport series come from a Curare? Or is it a Kaos? Anyone know for sure?

RE: *** Ultra Sport Brotherhood ***
It is a kaos wing.

RCKen,
Can we get an updated brotherhood list when you get a chance? I think I may have goofed up on my number and messed up everyone after me............. Thanks |
RE: *** Ultra Sport Brotherhood ***
RCKen, seeing how you no the people at Great Planes the next time you talk to them ask how many orders for a US 1000 they would need to make a production run.

I have US 40 kit and would also like to get a US 60 kit. I would like to join but don't know what number I am.
I plan on building one soon but already committed to building a Patriot 40 (another excellent flyer). |

Count me in! Not sure what number we're on though.
I built my Ultra Sport .40 last summer for my 2nd plane after my trainer after a 10 year hiatus from the hobby. It was my first kit build and covering job. Probably a little too ambitious for a first build, but it turned out OK. Definitely learned a lot about building and can't wait to build another one so it can be better than this. Built it completely stock except that I did a dual aileron set up. Power is from a TT .40 Pro. Not a beast, but flies it quick and with enough power for me. Covering is monokote, that keeps bubbling up; I keep ironing it back down but keeps bubbling up; not sure what to do about this (you can see bubbles in the pics) Flies amazing. I had one of the guys at the field maiden her for me, he had never flown a US before, and was blown away by it. Only has about 75 flights on it; just have been too busy finishing my PhD to get to the field very often over the past year. Here are some pics of it. |
RE: *** Ultra Sport Brotherhood ***
Oh yeah just a question. I see the US .40 is discontinued on Tower. Anyone know the plans with the US .60?
I'm itching to build another someday and was going to do another 40, but might just go ahead and pick up a .60 and put it away until I'm ready to build it if it might not be around much longer. Think I should go ahead and pick one up while they're still available? |
