You use ritz fabric dye to tint the canopy with. Get a package of ritz in the color of your choice, liquid or powder, I've used both with no problems. Mix it with 1 - 1 1/2 gallon of very warm water in a container large enough to completly submerge the canopy. You want the water to be hot but not hot enough to soften the plastic. The ritz dye tint does not work on ARF planes because they use different plastic.

I tried to tint a canopy from another kit manufacture (wasn't an ARF) and it did not take the dye. I tried both the powder and liquid and it failed... So I cleaned it all up and just painted the inside with gloss black paint, which blacked it all out and had no cockpit to show.... Maybe it was just the type of plastic that was used.

I just found the Brotherhood today. I am an Ultrasport owner as well. Mine is built from the RCM plans and it has been around since 1989. It is currently in repair, but it will certainly fly again!

I'll take #149, correct me if I am wrong. Pictures will be posted soon...

I'll take #150. I've had a US 1000 as well as the old US 40 ARF that I lost. It had retracts and had to be held by the tail, run up the engine and let it go to avoid nose overs. It snapped off the ground too soon and went in. There was no repairing that airplane with the foam covered surfaces. I have a 1000 kit in the box that I have a builder lined up for, just waiting on them to get free. Here is a picture of my late US 1000 I purchased on the Marketplace on RCU from Chicago

Ooh nice! That's one of my all time favorite Nascar paint schemes. I tried it once on a Supersportser with monokote, but it didn't turn out well.
After seeing your Ultra Sport I may have to give it another try.:cool:
I also really liked the Bobby Rahal Indycar commercial with the Saab Draken in that paint scheme.

It was a really cool covering scheme. The plane had a ST 3000 on it, I tinkered with it for a long time and could never get it to idle down. I had it set up to flip a switch to kill the engine right before it got to the runway, well I reached up to flip it and bumped the right stick, it rolled to the right and bit the dirt. Totaled. I will never ever touch a giant ST engine again, right before its last flight I told myself I would fly it once more then go home and order a large 4 stroke for it and pull the ST3000. It never made it back to the ground to do that. I get sad when I see that picture, I had only flew it 3-5 times before I lost it.

Such a beautiful flying airplane that after the incident I found a NIB kit on the marketplace and bought it. It has been sitting on a shelf for 6 years until I recently got back into the hobby. The next one will be built with a gas engine, tricycle retracts, and smoke. I'm going to have it covered in a scheme with my business logo on it. The builder I have lined out is very busy with work and another project, we're working out the details so I can get the kit shipped to him as I don't have the time to build anymore. I never was very good at it anyway.

Sounds like you had one of the ST 3000's which had the larger ST 4500 carb installed which lacked the suction to pull fuel from the tank. A lot of folks have posted the same issue with that engine. I was lucky to have one of the older ST 3000's with the smaller carb and it ran okay. If you kept the nitro below 10% ( it ran better with me mixing fuel to get the nitro down to around 8% ) it was pretty good. I did not plan to use the ST 3000 in my US1000 as I felt it was too heavy for the power it produced.

Get to work on that new in box US1000 and erase the bad memories....

Hi everyone,

I am getting close to putting some covering on my US40, I used the tail feathers from an Escapade sport ARF. The size of the tail surfaces (in square inches) is important. You should make sure that the ones you used are pretty close to the stock ones. Bigger than stock is not too bad. Smaller than stock could make a noticeable difference on the way the airplane flies. Add more balsa if you have to.

just about have the Wing fillets done, was not sure how to do them so I traced out the profile on some 1/4" sheeting and stacked them up and glued them only in the corner and bottom so I would not be sanding glue.

I was able to crazy glue the fillets to the fuse side after I was satisfied with the sanding. I am not entirely happy with the trailing edge of the fillet, not sure what I should have done there. Oh the strange looking object in the last pic is my "Po Boys Heat Recovery Ventilator" to keep my workshop clean and fresh, I share it with our two cats and our newest cat does not seem to know to burry his droppings after he is done. :(

Nice shot today of the US60 low and fast at the Bradley Co RC Club in Georgetown, TN. The more I fly this plane the more I love the way it fly's. So far my e-flite retracts have held up fine.

Very nice indeed. Now you can get you a quick video on youtube of take off turn back over by camera man and pull in retracts fly some wifferdeals lower retracts and land all in five minutes or less :D

Would like some pros and cons on building US60 wing with no dihedral.Am an experienced flyer,have one US 60 and one US 40.thanks

The forces exerted by the wing (lift and drag) need to be centered on the vertical CG in order for the airplane to be equally stable upright and inverted. (Truly neutral, "go where you point it" handling.) That is why aerobatic low wing models have dihedral, mid-wing Extras and Yaks have flat wings and aerobatic high wing models (there used to be a few) need some anhedral in the wing.

The Ultrasport with retracts is actually a little more stable inverted than right side up because it has less than the ideal amount of dihedral for neutral handling. That is the reason it is so easy to fly inverted. With fixed gear it is closer to neutral.

If you take the dihedral out, it will be even more stable upside down but less stable right side up. In other words, it will roll into turns easier than it will roll out of them when right side up and the opposite when inverted.

Do whatever suits your flying style.
