Default rotor blade balancing

Could someone please help me with the correct way to balance wood rotor blades. I have a nexus and trying to balance the main rotor blades. I recently purchased a Ace balancer and the instructions say to put tracking tape about a third the way in on the lighter blade. The instructions for the kyosho blade balancer say to balance static first then come back and balance dynamic. I am very confused. Could some of you experienced heli pilots enlighten me on the correct way to balance the main rotor blades. Thanks

One of the hardest parts in setting up your heli is balancing the blades. You have to make sure that the Static and the Dynamic Balance are both within tolerance. This is usually not a large tolerance, mind you.... something like 1 mm apart or less and 0.5gm weight difference.

Here, my advice is get a blade balancer. Doesn't matter which kind you get, so long as it allows you to balance both Static and Dynamic. If that's not possible, then try following the steps below.

1. Start by trying to get the CG correct. Using a razor blade, or a ruler, place the blade on the ruler's edge until the blade comes into balance.

]]]]============================================== <- Blade
! <-- Ruler
!
(CG)

2. Mark out the CG with a marker, and then find the CG of the other blade as well. At this stage, the two blades may have CGs in different position. If the two CGs are no further than 1 mm apart, then it's okay. Proceed to do the static balance.

3. However, if the CGs are more than 1mm apart,

]]]]================CG==================== (blade 1)
]]]]===================CG================= (Blade 2)

then you have to get the CG of Blade 1 to match Blade 2. (Inner CG push to outer.)

4. Do this by applying a little black tape or decal at the EDGE of blade 1 to push the CG more to the outer edge.

]]]]===================CG===============>> <--Tape the edge

5. Refind the CG again, and compare with Blade 2.

]]]]===================CG===============>> (blade 1)
]]]]===================CG================= (Blade 2)

6. Once you got both the CGs correct, the Blades are now Dynamically Balance. That is, when rotating, the CGs will be spinning together at the same spot.

7. But the tendency is that now, Blade 1 would be heavier than blade 2

8. To make sure the static balance is equal, (if you don't have a blade balancer), screw both blades together at the blade holder bolt. And tie a string through it at the same time.

s ! Bolt it and tie a string
!
===============CG===========[[[!]]]=========CG==============>>
Blade 2 ! Blade 1 (Heavier?)

On the Lighter Blade (Blade 2), put tape EXACTLY on the CG to make
them balance horizontally. (If blade 1 is lighter, than put the
tape on blade 1's CG instead)

! Bolt it and tie a string
!
===============>>===========[[[!]]]=========CG==============>>
Blade 2 Tape ! Blade 1 (Heavier?)

9. There! Your blades are now balanced.

Easy or what

GGGrgrrrrrrrrr!

Here's the real deal. Her name is Molly! 5 year old Malamute.

Funny thing is her eyes follow me around the room too. Usually all the way to the buscuit barrel

ps Glad your blades now balance!

I'm going to keep this post civil because what I really want to say,I cant write! I just sat in my basement for 2 hours trying to spanwise balance these blade s. Their flat out junk. you would think the poeple at ( JR ) would get it right. I spent alot of money puting thier (VENTURE CP ) together and I come to this. THIER no where close to each other. The book says use their little sticker to balance them,I used a half a freaking roll of electrical tape. Good job guys. When you white color yuppies are sitting on the beach spending my hard earned money. Think of me and my 2 year old kid. 5 years in this hobby and I never felt more freaking jipped as I do right now.............(JR and Horizon Hobbies)are a Freakin rip off............................................... .........................

OE blades are notorious for being crap. Invest in a set of decent glass or CF blades and it'll make you again.

I have heli-max carbons and didn't balance them. My heli flies sweet.

What happens if the blades ar out of balance?

does the head shake?

or is harder to control?

Guess its time to invest in a balancer.

If your blades arn't ballanced you'd know about it

The whole heli will shake like a dog if they are bad, but you might just get a foaming fuel tank if they are just out.

Most folks, unless they are trouble shooting a vibration problem, bolt and fly the carbons, mine were always dead on so I quit messing with it unless I put a new set on and the bird develops a sudden case of the shakes.

Tracking with carbon or glass is better, they are stiffer, auto better and have been known to make the wife smile while she's mowing the grass to boot.

I have no symptoms of out-of-balanced blades. Heli-Max rules [8D]

I noticed on ALL my wood white covered blades the thin plastic covering gets loose and will flutter at hoover speed..
The nice thin line that shows a nice track goes into a thin blur but so far they fly good doing normal flights.
I was only going to get the Honey Bee King.
Then I got the Falcon and then I got another Falcon and now I have a full cnc Humming bird on the way,$450.00 in parts,then I got more batteries and another charger and GYRO.
Lori gave me a cold can of tomato soup for supper last night.
I think shes trying to tell me something.
Eat cheap so I can buy more heli goodies

i have done as ian instructed but still there's that out-of-track.ive notice that a single turn of the snap-on-ball joint has a great effect in such a way that half a turn of a joint can reverse that tracking of both blades. can somebody please explain this phenomenon?
