454 problem
Hey guys I have a quick question that I am having with my 454 motor. I am just starting out in the hobby and hope some body can point me in some kind of direction, So here is the problem that I am have; When try and start my engine I can see that there is a lot of fuel that is shooting out between the top of the piston sleeve and the head of the motor, Any ideas what may be causing this? Possible bad gasket? Any help would be appreicated.

RE: 454 problem
Is the head loose or glowplug loose? Theres not really a head gasket its more like a shim to adjust compression that seal to the top of the piston sleeve

If you dont use blue locktite, you run a high risk of the screws coming loose again.
p.s. Anpacmn - I see you're from Cloquet, MN. I'm down in Cottage Grove. Good to see another Minnesotan R/C'er here.

RE: 454 problem
The glow plug is not loose either is the head. I seems to me that it is more oil that is coming out of the motor........any other ideas why this may be occurring?

head button. This doesnt happen very often if there is a clean undamaged head shim in place. Third; Like Mclovin350z said, if the exhaust gasket has a rip or chunk missing it can leak a little bit blowing oil around the base of the cylinder head/button giving the illusion the head itself is leaking. When I install a header onto a new gasket, I use a light film of ARO or another light oil on the rubber seal and twist the header onto the new seal. This prevents the seal from getting damaged. I've seen torn header seals right out of the box so this is certainly a possibility.
Could you take a picture of the offending engine and post it?

That guy ^^explained it well, thank you 1Qwk... Have you ever had the head off? I'm willing to betit's the exhaust gasket, I've had about 35-40 different engines now, and none have ever had a leaky head.
