IMO, an OS #8 for break in, then I run a cold OS A5 for normal running.. Lower temps, more power/speed, but a bit less stable on the idle...

Here's my SC8 with a silver 427 and an OS A5 from last weekend..:

The A5/#10 is all I run in my SH engines - Mach, LRP Spec 3, etc..

The Odonnel plugs are/were OK - if you can find them still.. Tower had them for DIRT cheap...

A lot of people like the McCoy plugs, but I never much liked or had good luck with them.

Pick your glow plug according to fuel. 20% nitro or less usually a hot plug is best. Medium plugs in 30% nitro, maybe cold plugs if the air temp is really hot. I use McCoy MC59 hot plugs in all of my engines both car and airplane all year; up to 25% nitro. I make my own fuel at 20% nitro 12% castor and my engines love it. I tried medium plugs and the idle suffered a lot. Even my anemic Traxxas engines like mc59's. Head temps range from 240-260 on my homebrewed fuel.

20% nitro car fuel 12% castor costs me about $21 a gallon to make and my 5% nitro 20% castor airplane fuel is about $13 a gallon. Synthetic oil is way more expensive than castor. Raw ingredients cost me about $120 and that would allow me to make 4 gallons of car fuel and 2-3 gallons airplane fuel. Car fuel is $36/gal and airplane is $33/gal so it's almost half price.
