What fail-safe are you using?
Just got my LST last week and had my first run-away on Saturday. I had a flat-pack zip tied to the shock tower, but I guess it wasn't tight enough. Like an idiot, I ran right into the goal post on a football practice field. The battery went flying, and then the truck took off WOT. Across the parking lot, crossed the street and ended up upside down in a ditch. The body got scuffed up, but no other damage. Anyway, I'll be adding a fail-safe to the LST and to my Mayhem buggy. What brand do you recommend? Are there any pro's or con's between the different brands? Thanks!

why is it on the shock tower and not the battery holder under the chassis? also if if it gets disconnected even with the fail safe on it will still be stuck in WOT...the fail safe guards against low voltage and interference.....not no power at all...

RE: What fail-safe are you using?
i use the ofna ones. there small and seem to do very well. the money aint bad either. bout 30 bucks. and ive gotten both of mine wet numerous times and they have survived.although i do not recomend pushing your luck on that one. i use them on my lst and my xtm x-cellerator. stay away from the xtm failsafe. its junk. www.hobbypeople.net has the ofna one.

Thanks alot! I wondered about the spring too. Somehow it got stuck wide open. I had to use pliers to shut it. It slides easy now, but I'm going to take the carb apart and see if I can figure out why it stuck open.

I have the Dynamite "Micro Race Guard" in the LST. It's incredibly small!

I might also suggest a rollbar. The New Era LST roll bar provides a lot of protection

I use the Ofna fail safe. Not failed me yet. nice and small and easy to use. Glad you did not end up with to much damage from your first run away. The lack of control soon gets you thinking about fail safes but as already stated it wouldn't have helped if you had one.

I've got one of them venom efforts and I'm also using the in built failsafe in my futaba 3pk.
How come if your fail safe fails to work it's allways when u're going flat out and there are a million and one things on the horizon that want to do as much damage to your truck as they can? I hate sods law [:@]

RE: What fail-safe are you using?
Thanks for the good suggestions guys. The dynamite looks small and may fit in the Rx tray. I'll see what my lhs has and try to compare sizes. BTW what packs are you fitting in the battery holder. I have is 6 cell flat pack. It won't fit in the holder which is why it's on the shock tower. Will a 5 cell hump pack fit in the holder?

I found these batteries, they look cool:
http://www.onlybatterypacks.com/items.asp?db=24
Looks like you can go with hump pack, stick, or even BOTH in parallel.
Dont have to take it out of the truck to charge...

RE: What fail-safe are you using?
Very cool, brings up another question though. The single stick pack weighs 3.9 oz. and discharges at 200 mah for 5 hours. I like the dual packs in series. They discharge at 400mah for 6 hours, but the weight goes up to 8 oz. If I decide I want to race, won't the extra weight make a difference?

RE: What fail-safe are you using?
I bought one of those packs from
http://www.onlybatterypacks.com/items.asp?db=24
Its decent but the supplied charger isn't made to interface with the BIC plug, its a generic universal type plug, it works, but its flaky. I suppose I could buy another BIC connector and cure the problem.
Its nice not having to remove the tank to get at the AA's or having to pull the flat pack to charge it.
Has anyone tried a 7.2v setup? I know the system is 6v but it seems to deplete the batteries FAST, even the 1200 flat pack is a short duration type thing.

RE: What fail-safe are you using?
Thats weird, because unless im interpreting it wrong, in the pictures it looks like it shows some kind of adapter that goes from the plug coming off the battery to a standard charger type plug... ??

RE: What fail-safe are you using?
The 2400mah battery packs from onlybatterypacks, I believe, are just two 1200mah packs connected in parallel to get 2400mah. If you used just one individually you would only have 1200mah.
I use a Dynamite micro failsafe. Fits right in the receiver box.

Yes it fits in the Rx box with no effort at all. Also the Dynamite micro-failsafe is the ONLY failsafe that also responds to same-channel interference. If you turn on 2 transmitters with the same frequency, the failsafe will activate.

RE: What fail-safe are you using?
I ordered 2 of the Dynamite micro's. Still not sure what I want to do about the batteries though. Anyone know where I can get some like these http://www.onlybatterypacks.com/items.asp?db=24 made with Sanyo cells? Or would that be overkill for an Rx pack?
