What engine for Racing?
I know there are lots of threads on engines. But I'm particularly interested on opinions on .28 engines (I think thats the largest according to ROAR rules). I'm interested in the engines that are race specific. The kind you have to tear-down and re-sleeve and put a new piston in after a couple of race weekends, the kind that is so tight that you have to undo the glow plug some to get it to start the first time out......
Price isn't an issue. When we have the State Championships much later this year I want to have the best possible engine (I've already got the best possible MT). If I don't finish well I want it to be because of me and not that my equipment isn't up to the task.

umm maybe a diablo it runs for 179 http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXHGU5&P=ML
a wasp for 179 but its .26 http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXEKX1&P=ML
i bet u could make this work and it wouldnt be that bad at all (.23) http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXHPE7&P=ML
i would give my left arm to see the following engines in a monster truck because they would rippppp!!!!!!!!! (but their .21, but most of them have a higher hp rating then the big boys and there lighter much lighter. some of them are under rated ei. the oses.)

RE: What engine for Racing?
Thanks for the list of engines.
I do have further questions. The old saying; "There's no replacement for Displacement". Is that true with those engines you've listed? The bigger the better?
Why is one engine 345ish and the other under 200 bucks?
It seems that in general .28 engines are less in expensive than the .21 engines. Why would that be? I mean there are a bunch of .28s and just under that for 200 and under....

RE: What engine for Racing?
well the .21s i listed are "bread" for racing the os v-spec and the picco are p7r and the kanai are buggy race engines which pull a little better throught the mid range because they are off road engines, but the world replica and the Maranello are on road engines so you would go faster because the peak rpms are much higher do to the fact that they are supose to be on road but will work for off road.
imho the only thing u get with the bigger piston (displacement) is more torque because that bigger piston can take more. but like stated before this is only my opion

RE: What engine for Racing?
for example the os v-spec pulls 2.5hp (rcca did u loaded dyno and there results were 2.94hp) at 33,000rpms but the Maranello pulls 2.3hp (probably somewhere around 3hp also) at 44,000rpms. see the diff. with the on road u get ur power during the high points of the rpms producing more speed. but the v-spec u get the hp at lower rpms so the hp goes toward the torque factor

RE: What engine for Racing?
you guys are wrong...a ON-road engine has more power, a more abrupt powerband and more rpm....on road engines are not used in off-road due to their aggressive powerbands, traction would be compromised too much.......a off-road engine is designed to have a nice linear power curve that is tractable yet still powerful......an on-road engine is designed for all out power as traction is not as much of an issue...................some of these high strung .21's will likely not do too well in a LST as the LST is very heavy and these .21's lack the power in the lower RPMS of the .28's.......the best bet for racing the LST is likely the Mach .26, SH 28, Top 28, or Sirio 27..........but honestly the Mach is going to do just fine for racing and i cant see doing any better with more power then it already has........

RE: What engine for Racing?
i would not use the sh.28 it lack in the upper rpms. it hits max power at 28,000 then its all downhill from there. although u could gear it really tall but idk, i would just go with the either the red .21 with the silver head or the sirio .27 monster xl race.

Dude you gotto try the NOVA ROSSI .28 8 port i have one and nothing so far can catch this thing i now have a land missile.
I beleive this is engine is used to drag race rc s also a friend has a sirio .27 in his MGt and that too is very quick, there are some stats on the engine somewhere do a search to get all info needed.

I think the Mach 26 is Fine for racing, Theres not to many tracks that you can get going full speed on anyhow, And the more power you have the more time you spend try'n to get some grip, Besides I think its fun to beat someone with there big bad engine, With mine still Stock, I think alot of people spend to much money on Hop-Ups and not e-nuff time learning to drive. Just my thoughts, Jason

RE: What engine for Racing?
I have a sirio 27 racer 11 port in my lst. It just rips. It has all kinds of low end torque, and it has the rpms to give it the top end. I need to gear mine up. I have 40 series bowties on it makes it to low geared. It should work fine for the smaller tracks that we race on.
